If the Pirates didn't run into the Madison Bumgarner freight train, they might have got to the world series last year. The year before, they pushed the Cardinals closer to elimination that I think the Dodgers did in the NLCS.

I think they're a solid pick, the Dodgers didn't get better this offseason, the Nationals anointed themselves champs and will thus fall on their faces, and the Giants will probably miss the playoffs because they wont benefit from having the two worst teams in the MLB in their division again. So, the Pirates just need to get past the Cardinals.

He'll be tasered by the ESPN overlords for his insolence.

I think the Cardinals are going to struggle to stay in the playoff race this season. I guess it really depends on how good Wacha pitches. They lost a lot of innings in Miller that have to be replaced. Plus they're just old. Holliday, Molina and Peralta are going to have to contribute a significant chunk of offense for them.

I dont get it. Holliday is kinda okd the other two are in their early 30s. Lineup looks extremely well balanced.

I think Holliday is going to be a liability offensively and defensively this year and Molina is an injury risk who's production could fall more this year. Peralta should regress some too. Then I see guys like Wong, Carpenter, Adams and Heyward as complimentary guys.

I don't see the Pirates being able to get past the Nationals in a series... that rotation (assuming they all stay healthy)

Heyward's going to discover steroids benefit from the Cardinals' hitting instructor and turn into the monster everyone expected him to become.

Washington vs. Pittsburgh in the playoffs and you aren't confident?

Granted small sample size, but the two trips to the playoffs for the nationals make them seem like a team that folds when things don't go their way.

This sounds like what you hope for as opposed to what anyone would expect to happen.

Yeah, I'm not saying they can't win it, I just can't wrap my head around them being that full 5 man rotation in a series. But... BUT... it's a long season, rarely is a rotation fully in place from the start of the season to the end of it, we'll see what happens. I'm just excited Buccos baseball is just around the corner.

They were a bad offensive team last year. adding another high OBP guy with no power in Heyward does not address their issues.

Pedro with a 2 run homer. I'm not sure what to make of Pedro not being totally useless in spring training.

Alvarez, Harrison and Marte are all hitting this spring. Cervelli and Mercer are coming around, Cervelli with 2 HR today and Mercer with a couple multi hit games in a row. Polanco is off to a slow start, they might want to start him lower in the lineup to start the season.

This morning Jim Colony (who has an anti-Kang bias due to his man love for Walker) basically said he sucks. Puts on a show during batting practice, but is batting .130 (3 for 23) in the spring, can't hit breaking balls, and provides average-at-best defense.

No power? He's 20HR/162.
