Just finished Whiplash. Not a bad movie but best part was JK Simmons, he did a great job with his role.

Last week I watched Birdman. I loved it. Strange at times but the story is good (reminds me of Keaton in real life with Batman and Ben Stiller/Tug Speedman in Tropic Thunder haha), great acting especially from Keaton, Norton, and Galifianakis, and I loved the single shot aspect. Wasn't sure what to expect from the single shot but I felt it worked extremely well.

Cinderella was really good. I'd put it at 313.29% better than Maleficent. Wonderfully acted. Beautifully shot. Lily James and Robb Stark have excellent chemistry with each other. Overall it was just a good, enjoyable movie.

The main girl and Geoffrey Rush were excellent. For some reason I was really put off by the characters speaking an odd combination of English with a German accent and German. Pick a damn language, this isn't Firefly.
pretty much agree with this. Based on the trailer, I had a little higher hopes for it. I like how they portrayed death and will be following up the movie with the book which I can see being a lot better.
I finally watched this and the above seems correct. The little girl did a good job. The one part that bothered me was the (way too obvious) looming threat of someone opening their mouth to the wrong person.
I *generally* don't like films, where children play such a large role, but that's because I'm curmudgeon. Three/five stars, but probably would never watch again.

For me my top five for that time frame:

Daniel Day Lewis
Leo DiCaprio
Tom Hanks
Denzel Washington
Phillip Seymour Hoffman

For the older crowd, add:

Jack Nicholson
Sean Connery
Anthony Hopkins
Clint Eastwood
Al Pacino

Just out of the top 10:

Edward Norton
Will Smith
Brad Pitt
Russell Crowe
Kevin Spacey

Bummed they aren't going to film in Pittsburgh. During one of his podcasts, it was down to Atlanta and here.

That is such a strange movie. Couldn't really figure out what it was trying to be, but I find it still enjoyable.

blegh. I love Clerks and Mallrats but considering how no reboot sequels are any good these days (I'm looking at you Anchorman 2, Dumb and Dumber 2, Hobbit, etc.) they're probably going to be shiite

I think the Disney adaptation was more in line with "we have little Tokyo in san Fran, lets expand that but still be American for our audience"

I know the comics had a villain called everwraith that was a manifestation of the bombings at hiroshima, so those events, one would assume, took place. I liked the route they went with the villain. They mixed the doc ock minibot storyline without treading into the minibots doing too many ock-like things--the first sighting at the dock was a good h/t.
