Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
Home ice tends to be a bigger deal for heavier teams. The crowd can juice up the physical play more so than it can help a skill team skill it up. Washington and NYI play a pretty heavy game, so I wouldn't want to go in there for a game 1

TIL "the Phone Booth" is an actual nickname used by Capitals fans for the Verizon Center.

Just saw this. Makes me proud. Glad it doesn't mean "to post contrarian opinions that are based in a reality other than this one".NashvilleCat wrote:You should Rocco them. The Blackhawks developed him, and the Rangers have reaped the benefits.
I'm rooting for the Caps in this game, which means they'll lose, since they never do what I want them to do.

I question the Isles' ability to go far in the playoffs.

Played Halak too many games and they are running out of gas. Personally, this is who I want the Pens to play in Round 1 over NYR, BOS, WSH.

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
To me, the Isles are playing the same way they were early in the year; it's just that the rest of the league has figured out what that means & are starting to counter it. They have an incredible first line, and very strong 3rd/4th liners. But their defense & their secondary scoring, with just a meh goalie, makes them weaker. They are just as dangerous as Washington... and part of me would love to see those two teams play.
I still would prefer Washington over the Isles, though. They're going to give 100% on both sides of the ice. With Washington, their best player won't do that. And with Boston, it's fully dependent on if Rask stands on his head.
The Rangers are the team to beat, I think. Their defense is so freaking good, and they have such a good top 9. Only problem is their lack of #1 player (Nash is playing amazingly, but I'm not convinced yet). The Habs are playing Therrien's system perfectly, with the best goalie in the league to boot. They're #2, I think. Pens are 3rd.

I agree, the canadiens and rangers are the class of the east. Id say the pens wings lightning and isles are next and then the bruins and caps. I think the rest of the conference is basically irrelevant. Oddly that works out to 8 teams.
Had the lightning not just had those injuries, id probably group them with the rangers and montreal.

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
The Lightning don't really strike me as a team that should strike fear into any opponent. They remind me of the old Caps we used to beat up on that had high offense, average defense, and average goaltending. That's not a good combination to have heading into the playoffs. No one wins 6-4 games in the playoffs.

Bruins / Caps tonight should be entertaining. I will be interested in watching the Broon's response to Tom Wilson's antics, who happens to be on OvenChicken's wing.

Wilson flattens Spooner, the Rat retaliates and tackles Wilson, Caps score on the PP. Just like 1,2,3.

Good point. (er/or). How about that, the Bruins are shutout 2-0 just like they did to the Penguins yesterday, I wonder if they think their season is over

Much as I dislike the Rat, he does stick his nose in the tough spots. He parks in front of the net, gets crosschecked by the defenseman, cuffed in the back of the head by the goalie and plays on. Still can't stand him.
