And as I write that... the Rangers basically clinch it with Kreider's speed.

Wow, Caps dominating the entire third and then give up a goal on the Rags first scoring chance of the period..

I think its looking like a Islanders-Penguins 1st round series. The way the Rangers are playing, I dont see the Penguins catching them. Theyre 5 points back now. It would take a heck of a run to catch them.

Ducks with a pretty massive 2nd-period collapse against the Flames... giving up 4 goals.

Monahan is for real - 25 goals? Geez.

Avyran wrote:The Pens & Rangers are about as even as you can get, I think. The Rangers are a little more physical, the Pens more skilled (the comparison works for both offense & defense). The Rangers have size, the Pens' speed. Both teams have a good structured defense, a sound team system.

It's a very even comparison, IMO.
I'm pretty sure the Pens are actually bigger than the Rangers....not by a lot, but still bigger. Pens average height is 72.9 inches and weight is 201.6 lbs. Rangers average is 72.6 inches and 200.9 lbs. I didn't include the goalies or Maatta or Dupuis in that. Both injured Pens would increase the Pens advantage. Fleury is an inch taller and 8 lbs lighter than Lundqvist. I'm also of the opinion that the Rangers are the faster of the two teams.

One thing I am pretty confident of is this post season is going to be a lot of 2-1 games and it wouldn't surprise me to see long overtimes....

It also is looking more and more like it's going to be Pens vs. Islanders in the first round.

It was an arbitrary number. Like a Top Ten list.

No logic at all!

But yes, we'd need 4 things...4 wins!

Ovechkin at the bare minimum better receive a fine for that hit. The puck was well away from the play, he saw the guy in a vulnerable position, and went straight for his head. Just a totally stupid/reckless move.

Stamkos - 10 min misconduct in OT for accidentally throwing part of his stick into the stands. Don't see that too often.

I guess I meant *how* about them Sens. Impressive run, but they'll probably still come up short in the end.

They have *very* little chance, but the beauty is that their winning coincides with Boston winning and Washington struggling. Right now if they make it, it is just as likely Washington being on the outside as it is Boston. Washington missing the playoffs at this point would be epic.

This place would freak if their team lost at home to Dallas, 4-1 (sorry, 4-2 with an extra man goal from WSH). Or if they lost to Ottawa at home, 2-1. Yet they both happened to teams supposedly better than the Pens (according to some).

That snarky comment out of the way, Ottawa's the hottest team in the league right now. Riding a young hot goalie ala Hedberg or Lalime. And they're doing it with no major offensive force (Karlsson's been much less this year). Meanwhile, Washington's "physical" play caught up to them, with Wilson taking 3 penalties; the guy needs to learn to not be a moron & control himself. WSH took 7 overall, & have given up 3 power play goals.

Yeah, the Caps had no interest in that one...underestimated them, got down early, got sewn up by the Dallas PP and then just sort of took their lumps...a pretty porous defensive team and the Caps were not really involved through most of it...

I watched the Ottawa/NYI game most of the time. They really didn't do anything overly great; however, they really stifled the Isles. They're playing really strong defensive play, even with a pretty meh defense in terms of individuals. And Hammond too; he doesn't seem all that great.

Turris is probably their best player, and he is just a better Spaling (IMO)... or, to write it in a better light, a worse Datsyuk/Bergeron. Just a smart player, always being in the right position and doing the right actions. Ryan shot a breakaway shot to give the Sens a 2-goal lead directly into Halak's side. Michalek, Macarthur, Zibanejad.... they're all decent players (like Kunitz or Winnik) but nothing amazing.

Cameron's doing a great job; it's amazing what a team can do when they fully buy into the system.

Game wasn't the most exciting thing to watch, though, IMO. It felt like a Devils game.

I don't give home ice much value but I wouldn't want to play game 1 in Long Island.

Agree. Of the NYR/NYI/WSH options, for some reason, playing in that dump puts me least at ease.
