Don't get me wrong, Coburn makes them better but that cost was insane and he still has a $4.5 million cap hit next year which only ranks 4th on the team. They now have almost $27 million committed to their top 6 defensemen.Kraftster wrote:Yeah, I don't consider Stralman and Coburn to be fringe top-four guys. They may not be able to anchor a team's defense, as mikey alluded to above, but they belong in a team's top 4.

Oh, yeah, I think they gave up too much. No disagreement there.

Disagree, he's a good skater. Better laterally maybe, but he's mobile for his size, in my opinion.

Always thought of coburn as a great guy to pair with a high end dman on the 1st or with another similar calibre player on the second. Hes a top 4 guy.

Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
I hope I'm proven wrong; I like the Lightning, but it just seems like the defense collection is a bunch of overpaid, underperforming folks (and then Hedman).
The Michalek trade is Michalek + a conditional 3rd round pick for Maxim Letunov, btw.

I agree with both of the last two posts (Edit: ID40 and mikey above). I think Coburn is a similar player to the guy that Tampa originally brought in to pair with Hedman--Matthias Ohlund.

They also have crazy inexpensive forward depth so i think they'll be ok. Ohlund and coburn are both expired after next year and who knows what is going on with ohlund anyway.DelPen wrote:Don't get me wrong, Coburn makes them better but that cost was insane and he still has a $4.5 million cap hit next year which only ranks 4th on the team. Maloney held out for and got his man- Letunov. He's had a nice deadline. Now give us Doan damn it.

He should send him to us as a favor to Doan for a conditional 2016 1st and conditional 2015 2nd based on solely winning the cup for the 1st and making the conference finals for the 2ndville5 wrote:Maloney held out for and got his man- Letunov. He's had a nice deadline. Now give us Doan damn it.

Saw Letunov play live one time for Youngstown. His offensive and puck skills are awesome, but his frame is so slight. Something like 6'2" 160lbs. Hopefully he can add at least 25 pounds so he doesn't get broken in half. Committed to BU.
