True, shmenguin. I just thought I remember reading Jagr wanted to go to a contender. Ah well.

All that said... deadline day is LIKELY going to be pretty dull this year.

Florida is absolutely a contender. They are good enough to be scary if they get hot. Exciting young team added a vet with deep playoff experience. Lol jagr or something.

You don't pay 2nd and 3rd for Jagr to trade him on Monday.

Bob McKenzie wrote:Here's bottom line on Clarkson-Horton trade: Horton's contract wasn't insured. CBJ paying him to sit in stands and he's longshot to play.

CBJ would rather pay Clarkson and have the player in the lineup. TOR must pay Horton's salary so there's no actual $ saving, BUT... ...TOR gets to put Horton on LTIR and use his cap hit $ elsewhere. so the net result is TOR loses David Clarkson's cap hit for the duration.

Huge cap maneuver for TOR. They lose Clarkson's contract entirely, must pay Horton to not play but get to use Horton's cap dollars elsewhere
Edited to add extra tweets McKenzie wrote to clarify.

I guess the Blue Jackets ownership figured if they were going to spend that kind of money, they might as well spend it on someone who will play in the next 2 to 3 years.

I didn't think you could trade an LTIR contract.

Aren't they 2 points behind a fading Bruins who recently lost Krejci to injury? Their playoff hopes are very real

I think CBJ loses big time with that contract. If Horton retires, toronto basically sheds that salary for free of charge.

This is a definite win for the Leafs...Clarkson was considered untradeable with his level of play and that horrible contract.

Even if Horton never plays again, they get the insurance, so its cap dump and they opened up space. Kudos to Nonis on this one.

Columbus...I'm not sure what theyre thinking...if they trade Wisniewski, okay, but otherwise, it puts this team in tougher cap situation. They gave significant raises to Dubinsky, Foligno and Bobrovsky.

I think Columbus is going to make more trades than this, taking this contract on is just a bad idea. They were getting relief atleast with Horton.

2 points behind.

8) BOS - (67 points) 29-22-9, last 10 are 2-6-2
9) FLA - (65 points) 26-21-13, last 10 are 3-4-3
10) PHI - (63 points) 26-24-11, last 10 are 4-2-4

And again, Horton's contract is not insured. Toronto's on the hook for paying him; they just don't mind it, because it doesn't count against the cap.

Horton's contract was NOT insured. So, COlumbus was paying him for nothing. It's even, imo.
