Interesting trade....DSP seemed to be very good for Ana.

Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
He was up and down, Kovy. He didn't have quite as much spunk lately this season. When he came into the league, he played like his pants were on fire, but recently, it hasn't been the case. For poolies, I could definitely see Sekac taking the spot next to Getzlaf or the spot next to Kesler in their top six and he could really excel without MT's shackles being on him...he's a handy little player...

Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
Sekac seemed like the most talented guy on the ice the last two times we played Montreal. They got a decent player back, for a guy who's understandably going to be inconsistent in his first NA pro year... but man they could come to regret that one.

This is exactly the sort of move I was hoping they would have done with Beau Bennett. Trade him for a guy like DSP or Emerson Etem.
Not sure there would have been any interest in Bennett, but worth exploring.

Leddy signed to a new 7-year deal with NYI. Will update this post when the specific terms're announced. Average cap hit of 5.5.
Breakdown of the Leddy salary: $4 million, $4.5 million, $5 million, $5.5 million, $6 million, $6.5 million & $7 million in the last year.

5.5M is a lot for Leddy. Wonder if they are going to lockup Boychuk next?

5.5 isn't a lot for a team not really in any cap trouble on a back loaded contract... take a bigger cap hit now in exchange for more cap savings later. Great move by snow on the 23 year old

Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
I'd written Leddy off as a fantasy asset, considering him to be more in the Paul Martin mold than, well some good-skating PMD with more offensive upside. Signs this year to suggest he's something more than a mid-30s point defenseman?

Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
He has that type of upside, Krafty, but it hasn't been documented on the scoresheet yet. He joins the rush so frequently, and touches the puck a lot...you wonder where he'd be on the tertiary assists...but yeah, I took a peek at his point total for the year and was bewildered...I would have guessed he had 30+ by now based on how well he has played and fit into that Isles system...him and Boychuk have been a revelation for that club...

That's more like it. If he were a bit older, you know, showed he can play this game season to season. This is only his 2nd full NHL season. Right now, he's a great commodity. Just a little too...unknown... to throw that amount of term and money at. Maybe a small bridge dealmikey287 wrote:Leddy better at $4.5 million, meow, ya think?

That's not how it works anymore. His cap hit will be $5.5 for the duration of the contract no matter what his salary is for a particular season.Mr. Colby wrote:5.5 isn't a lot for a team not really in any cap trouble on a back loaded contract... take a bigger cap hit now in exchange for more cap savings later. Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
I know that what i meant was theyre taking a 5.5 cap hit which is too much for leddy now but by year 7 that'll be a hell of a deal if he continues his career trajectory... and they can handle the larger cap hit than he deserves now because they have roommeow wrote:That's not how it works anymore. It's a 2016 3rd as well...hard to believe that they didn't hold out for this year's 3rd...unless it's by design...

A 7th is going back in return. Either Rutherford wasnt interested or the Panthers werent going to trade him to an eastern contender.

I'm sure he was interested, but who on the roster that makes at least 2m is Bergenheim better than? We can't just add bodies...

I highly doubt Florida was withholding trading a guy that was a healthy for 20 games this year to an eastern contender.BleuLineLady wrote:mikey287 wrote:It's a 2016 3rd as well...hard to believe that they didn't hold out for this year's 3rd...unless it's by design...
