I know, Mikey, was just making a joke. But honestly, even at the beginning of the season, knowing Buffalo & NJ's roster... would you really choose that game?
My guess, instead, is that NBCSN has a deal with MSG & a few other networks (that aren't CSN) to show games on their off-nights. But I dunno.
They're probably just responding to some fans' wishes of more varied teams on national games...the Devils - never on national TV - vs. the Sabres, a ratings darling usually, probably made some sense at the time...or at least, that's the angle...
The Pens played the Caps on national TV just last week didn't they? Or two weeks ago whatever? I doubt they'd want to go back to that well again...
The Western games, I don't know...they may have to be at 7:30 on certain days, I'm not sure...I only say that because the Devils are almost always a 7 local start because of the proximity of their fanbase...today they play at 7:30 to fit in the NBCSN window. So perhaps they didn't want to or couldn't move the Central/West teams to 7:30 Eastern...
np, Mikey, I didn't assume it was or took offense or anything. Was just using your comment for a springboard. I just find it interesting that they chose Buffalo over SJ/NSH and DAL/STL, even at the beginning of the season.
But if everyone has to be on national TV at least once, then I guess it makes a little more sense. Doesn't really help NBC's ratings or further the advertisement of the league at all, but meh.
I wish we drafted Brandon Saad (and then Nikita Kucherov) instead of Joe Morrow & Scott Harrington. Hooray for 100% hindsight. And for the record, I'm actually still psyched to see how Harrington plays next year.
But yeah, that offsides call kinda didn't surprise me.
