Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
Dave Nonis, Leafs GM, stayed over in Nashville after a recent game and was chatting with Poile...they have had a lot of high-ranking personnel in Manchester recently as well...that's the Kings farm team...I wonder if we don't see some kind of Mike Richards/Dion Phaneuf swap. Probably comes with an LA prospect...like Jordan Weal or some such...tough to really pin it down, because it's tough to envision what either player is worth...

Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
My gut leans toward Toronto winning that solely in the first round selection they picked up. I haven't seen a ton of Fransen so I dunno.mikey287 wrote:Nashville acquires: Cody Franson and Mike Santorelli

Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
No, you're right, it's a pretty good deal for Toronto. I looked at it this way...you get a 2nd for Franson and a 2nd for Santorelli (or a B-/C prospect and a 3rd maybe)...or you get a 1st and B-/C prospect for the lot and if OJ has positive value, you get whatever that is too...but I'm not positive there's a lot of positive value in OJ...
Franson is not that good of a player...not a particularly good skater, not good defensively...good wrist shot, but overall kind of a sleepy player...reminds me a bit of Joe Corvo from some years ago...not a player I'd acquire if I was trying to make a push...especially if I'm Nashville, unless Ryan Ellis isn't coming back any time soon, those players are fairly similar...

Stalberg's salary is too high for what he brings to the ice. Carkner seems to be more of a penalty taker than anything... also not really what we would want.

From what I've seen, he's also not a very good human. Can't imagine anyone will want him.mikey287 wrote:Carkner is one of the worst players in the league...human garbage...

Was Carkner that guy that played both forward and defense badly?

Marc Methot re-signs with Ottawa for 4 years, 4.9 mill per.

My guess will be 4 years, 20 mill with Min or LA.columbia wrote:One wonders about the deal Martin will get (wherever that happens).Kovy27 wrote:Marc Methot re-signs with Ottawa for 4 years, 4.9 mill per.

If Orpik can get 5.5, Martin can get that or more.

Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
It seems that Methot left a lot of cash on the table. He's only 29 and would seem to have a higher ufa value than an Orpik, Niskanen or even a 34 year old Martin.Beveridge wrote:Kovy27 wrote:My guess will be 4 years, 20 mill with Min or LA.columbia wrote:One wonders about the deal Martin will get (wherever that happens).Kovy27 wrote:Marc Methot re-signs with Ottawa for 4 years, 4.9 mill per.

That's a nice contract for the Sens.

Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
Potential third liner there in DSP going the other way...Sekac, very skilled, but maybe not a match for FHCMT's lineup necessarily...higher upside than DSP, who seems to be more of a grinder type...adds some toughness to the Montreal lineup in case they don't want to ride young Jacob de la Rose too early...

Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
This move seems like Bergevin listening to Therrien very closely. Sounds like they are on the same page.
