Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
Winnipeg TOTALLY hosed Buffalo on this trade. I can't believe Tim Murray made this trade.
Kane is a cancer, and has a very serious injury.
Boggy is quality D, wish the Pens could of gotten him.
I know nothing of this goalie, so maybe that's the equalizer, but he better be the 2nd coming of Hasek.
Thankfully, the 1st round pick will NOT be a factor in the McDavid lottery as it will be the NYI one and fall outside the 14 non playoff teams who get a shot at McDavid. Losing the other guys just helps Buffalo's tank hopes.
Lemieux has been tearing it up in Junior though, that could be a big loss.

Do you really think this trade screams tank?count2infinity wrote:I'm getting my popcorn ready for the heartbreak when they don't get the #1 overall pick in Buffalo.

I'm surprised at the consensus view of Myers' offensive upside. I don't have much recent hockey to go on, but I had pretty comfortably put that to bed after watching the past couple years.

I guess I'm missing something. The Sabres minus Drew Stafford are appreciably worse?meow wrote:How could you not?Kraftster wrote:Do you really think this trade screams tank?count2infinity wrote:I'm getting my popcorn ready for the heartbreak when they don't get the #1 overall pick in Buffalo.

As long as they finished dead last though they're guaranteed McEichel.count2infinity wrote:I'm getting my popcorn ready for the heartbreak when they don't get the #1 overall pick in Buffalo.

The benefit of this trade is that Myers has been the piece that the market has been waiting on. I think this trade is the first domino. Time for action...

I think it screams tank because the centerpiece coming back to them is out for the next 6 months.Kraftster wrote:I guess I'm missing something. I just saw Custance state that Buffalo is also retaining half of Stafford's salary.....

That seems insignificant to me unless the loss from the current roster is significant, which it doesn't seem to be.meow wrote:I think it screams tank because the centerpiece coming back to them is out for the next 6 months.Kraftster wrote:I guess I'm missing something. Except the assets traded for that piece were not playing for them. Basically swapped Bogosian for Myers. Stafford was a goner anyways.meow wrote:I think it screams tank because the centerpiece coming back to them is out for the next 6 months.Kraftster wrote:I guess I'm missing something. I see that. Maybe it doesn't scream tank, but it does put the importance on the future moreso than the present.Kraftster wrote:That seems insignificant to me unless the loss from the current roster is significant, which it doesn't seem to be.meow wrote:I think it screams tank because the centerpiece coming back to them is out for the next 6 months.Kraftster wrote:I guess I'm missing something. Yeah. I guess my reaction to c2i's post was more because I find it easy to root for Buffalo in the race for McDavid, and it seemed like c2i was rooting against them in part due to the trade.

Doesn't matter, they get the lowest of Buffalo's 3 first round picks this yearcount2infinity wrote:I'm getting my popcorn ready for the heartbreak when they don't get the #1 overall pick in Buffalo.

Not necessarily, not with the new rules.meecrofilm wrote:As long as they finished dead last though they're guaranteed McEichel.count2infinity wrote:I'm getting my popcorn ready for the heartbreak when they don't get the #1 overall pick in Buffalo.
Here's a simulator: http://nhllotterysimulator.com/#/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Every non-playoff team has a chance. The worst team in the league only has a 20% chance at the #1 pick with the new lottery regulations.
Edit: Nevermind, I thought the other picks went like a lottery too. Apparently that isn't the case.

Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
If you were to take Lemieux out of the equation I wouldn't think this trade would be too bad, but with him in it I think it favors the Jets easily. Maybe I'm over rating his potential, but to me hearing things about his game during the draft makes me think he's the type of player that helps win you a championship... Interesting days ahead for sure......

Re: 2014-15 Non-Pens Transactions
OK, so new draft rules: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=728795" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Starting NEXT year's draft, the top 3 picks will be lottery picks, so there's the potential for the worst team to drop all the way to 4th. I think everyone else is just by descending points order.

Thanks for that. First time I ran that simulator the Flyers won the lottery. Day ruined.MRandall25 wrote:Not necessarily, not with the new rules.meecrofilm wrote:As long as they finished dead last though they're guaranteed McEichel.count2infinity wrote:I'm getting my popcorn ready for the heartbreak when they don't get the #1 overall pick in Buffalo.

This trade is up there with the Jagr to Washington trade. Jets just took the Sabres to the woodshed.
