Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Went to 2 different distributors looking for Nugget Nectar cans, both of them told me "They don't make cans of that". One of them had just spoken to the head of Troegs as well the other night, and he said they weren't really going to do it.
Weird on all fronts.

Cans might just be limited to the Troeg's general store. Not sure.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
No, a buddy of mine picked them up at a distributor in the Waterfront, and another distributor told me they ran out. And a friend of my brother's got it in the South hills

Firestone walker parabola, sucaba and velvet merkin are all at this cool pub in Philly tonight. It's their barrel aged stout, barley wine and oatmeal stout respectively. World class stuff.
Instead if going, I'm gonna go to bed early and take care of small children. Life is grand.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
DIY sampler packs are a strange bird. For $9.99, I got:
2 Golden Monkey
2 Allagash White
2 Dogfish Indian Brown ale
I know that they retail for >= $9.99, so....I'm not sure what's init for the store on that transaction.
I also got a four pack Wild Heaven's Eschaton quad, which clocks in at 10.5 ABV. They make good beer, so I'm looking forward to that.

Eschaton is a one-of-a-kind oaked all-malt Quadrupel (or “Belgian Strong Dark” if you prefer) that abounds with dark fruit and pit fruit flavors as well as earthy spiciness. Vanilla oak and warm viniferous notes assert themselves as the beer warms to reveal additional layers of delicious complexity.

It's a nice beer as is the Mexican coffee stout. The chai beer was weaker than Kenny the kangaroo had hoped.MRandall25 wrote:

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Eschaton is awesome. I saw they finished bottling a batch a few weeks ago but haven't seen it around Atlanta yet. I love their Ode to Mercy Winter. It works so well in the barrel. The regular Ode to Mercy is my favorite brown ever. Their Civilization barley wine was kind of "meh" tho.columbia wrote:DIY sampler packs are a strange bird. For $9.99, I got:

So what's the beer buying issue in Pittsburgh? I can only buy cases but at bars I can buy 6 packs?

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
You can't buy cases anywhere except for a distributor. You're limited to 6ers mostly everywhere or 12 packs at select spots.
Also, in the places you buy 6ers at (so your typical Giant Eagle), you're limited to 12 beers per purchase. If you want to buy 24 from GE, you have to leave the store with your first 12, then go back in and buy the second.

Sharkies in State College had a rule where you had to take the beer off their property before you could buy additional beers

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Had a bruery black Tuesday over the weekend, smell was all alcohol to me. From the smell and 19.2% abv, I was a little worried that I was going to have a rough time with it. I'm amazed at how smooth and easy to drink this was. It was boozy and had a nice burn to it, but really quite remarkable. I'm glad I tried one fresh, but I'm definitely not opening another for a while. Looking forward to revisiting in a couple years.
Also went up to southern tier, their choklat fresh on draft is so good, I was impressed with how much of a difference there was from the bottle. Consumed a couple growlers of that and their 2xpresso.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
enjoyed a few different beers this weekend:
mikkeller santa's little helper (2014) - very good belgian strong ale, very smooth at 10.9%
Cervesa Del Montseny + Negra Sout - From Spains 1st craft brewery. It was decent, a little light, but very drinkable
Brasserie de Blaugies - La Moneuse Saison - thoroughly enjoyed it, nice fruity taste, very refreshing
Sixpoint - Resin - really, really good, reminded me a lot of Dirt Wolf. Their can packaging is very convenient
Also put back a lot of Nugget Nectar, man is this stuff delicious. ST had buy one get one Sonnet, so I grabbed a couple of those and Allagash Saison (which I've never tried before).

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Essentially PA is if you want a 12 pack or less, you have to go to a bottle shop (which could be bars or grocery stores if they have a cafe). If you want more than 12 you have to go to a distributor. They are not interchangeable.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Nice. My beer store usually gets great stuff. Maybe since they usually have it on draft they are not going to get bottles. I will check next time I am in there. I thought they were bottling it in bombers, glad it is going to be in four packs instead.columbia wrote:Maybe check Whole Foods. That's where I got it (in Savannah).
