Re: Your irrational pet peeves
As a road runner, I completely agree. Had this same exact conversation with someone the other day. She asked why I won't run outside right now, and it's because the shoulders/bike lanes/grass are covered in plowed snow so I can't make myself safe. That's why I bought a treadmill. If you blast through my front yard, fence, backyard, and the wall of my house and then hit me while running I have all the right in the world to complain.shmenguin wrote:If you're a jogger and there's snow everywhere so you're in the middle of the road, it's my obligation to not run you over. And more relevant
And more prolific
And more critically acclaimed
And more important
And more influential
And more creative
...even though they've been stinky for a while.

I'd listen to STP over Radiohead any day of the week.
Not of a fan of Radiohead at all. Overrated.

Relevant to what? STP has more relevance in my life than Radiohead.

I like STP but Radiohead is better. Definitely the most unique band of the last 20 years

Maybe im disconnected from the music scene, but how are either of them influential socially or culturally?

Now? Neither are very relevant. STP is a footnote. Radiohead resonates a little but barely.

Music is part of pop culture last time I checked. But "pop culturally" isn't an expression that I'm aware of.Idoit40fans wrote:I mean ever.

Re: Your irrational pet peeves
I guess my confusion is that if they arent relevant at all now just a few years later, what was the influence?

They were influential for about 15 years. It's been almost 10 since they made a decent album. Over 10 since they made a good one. Your influence tends to trail off over time. Not sure what the issue is.

In Rainbows is a great album, at least to me (came out in 07).
I know I'm going to get laughed at for this declaration but I think they're the best band of the 00s. Incredibly unique, amazing song writing and superlatively innovative.

Pearl Jam > Radiohead. Radiohead is all kinds of awful to listen to. This is something my wife and I have never seen eye to eye on.

Best band from 96 thru 06...or something like that. Not the best of the 00s though.MalkinIsMyHomeboy wrote:In Rainbows is a great album, at least to me (came out in 07).

Re: Your irrational pet peeves
Whenever I've played Radiohead while someone else is in the room/car with me, their immediate reaction is "what the **** is this ****" and they are dying to change the music.
I don't know how anyone can listen to this and not like it...
