Having the Bourbon Barrel Stout right now. It's good, just not amazing.44windmill wrote:A friend of mine gave me a couple Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ales to try. Needless to say, I was excited to try it. On a scale of 1-10, I'd probably give it a 5. While it's definitely drinkable and smooth for a 8.2% ABV beer, it was just bland. No notes or flavors really stuck out to me.

Those are definitely on my list as well. I have yet to have something from the bruery that hasn't been amazing.shmenguin wrote:black tuesday is a bucket list one for me...though i guess chocolate rain or mocha wednesday would be preferable. i'd probably join the bruery's membership program if there was a practical way to get my beer shipped to me.
My brother and I hit the motherload this year
My wife just recently found out the raffle we won was just for an opportunity to purchase, not the actual winning of black Tuesday . That led to a conversation that pretty much ended up as "you paid how much for a bottle of beer?!?!

Just picked up a case of Nugget Nectar and it lives up to the c2i hype. Good stuff. The beer store guy said that they'll be coming out with 16oz cans in the next month or so.

Yeah, he said it had just come in tonight. I was about to buy the Coffee Stout and saw this. It blew my beer budget so I'll have to drink Genny Cream a few times to get back on track.shafnutz05 wrote:Just bought one in Christiana about an hour agoFactorial wrote:Just picked up a case of Nugget Nectar and it lives up to the c2i hype. Finally had this. Thought it was quite good for a 12 oz accessible saison. Had all the classic saison flavors to me.columbia wrote:Back to the saison talk...
I just had an Allagash Saison, which was completely underwhelming. If someone had told me that it was Yuengling's stab at the style, I would have completely believed it and if this had been my introduction to saisons, I'm not sure that I would have bothered to look much further.

Define okay... It's not going to kill you as long as it doesn't smell terrible, but it's not likely going to taste all that good.eddysnake wrote:Found a hopslam from 1/10/12 in my fridge, will this still be OK?

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I got a bottle and partook during the game. I have to say it was kind of a chore to get through. Didn't really enjoy it at all. The smell was magical. I didn't get any "oldness". But the taste didn't match that at all. It was really one note. Just sort of a skunky boozy taste. I couldn't pull any of the complexities from the flavor. I had older viscosity from the same brewery, and had the same experience. Maybe they weren't stored properly or something - they were both a couple years old. Wouldn't drink again. Especially at the price.Kraftster wrote:You bourbon barrel aged fans should check out the Lost Abbey Deliverance. I cracked it open last night.
Definitely more of the bourbon comes through than the brandy. If anything, I think the brandy barrel-aged Angels Share brings a bit of a sweetness and something like a raisin flavor. The nose is much heavier on bourbon, though. It was surprisingly smooth for being 12.5%.A blend of bourbon barrel-aged Serpent’s Stout and brandy barrel-aged Angels Share, Deliverance is the epic battle being waged between heaven and hell for the souls of mortal men… and your enjoyment in a glass.
My only complaint was that this particular bottle smelled a bit old. I have a hard time describing the "old" smell, but its almost as if the oak notes turn into cardboard notes.

Great Divide Oatmeal Yeti Stout: tasted like a chocolate covered raisin to me, but in a good way.

Helped Voodoo set up their brewpub in Homestead (not open yet), then hit Brew Gentlemen in Braddock. Both good spots.

Golden Monkey is a pretty good grocery store beer. A bit pricey for what you get, but enjoyable.

Went to this nanobrewery in Wilmington tonight called argilla http://www.argillabrewing.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; meh. A Not bad IPA (Happy House and Burton) and some weird coconut flavored brown ale that was near awful. Sin City something, their stout, was probably the best of the bunch.
This is by no means a recommendation.

Chilling the Jolly Pumpkin Luciérnaga I picked up at Ho1kB this week to go with some "barbacoa" I've had going in the oven all day. Can't wait.
