Already listed points against (6th, 1st, 13th from 2011-13). Red zone % and 3rd down % are non-predictive from year to year and not worth dealing with, though they went from one of the best in terms of red zone opportunities allowed per game in 2011 and 2012 to the bottom half this year. In past years teams weren't getting into the red zone with the ease they did this year. Lack of turnovers have been a problem, but that's been mitigated by not giving up so many points.

Regardless of what stats might say, I think it's safe to say they failed to pass the eye test the past couple years. It seems like more often than not they couldn't get a stop when it really mattered.

Who was making the decision as to who was playing on defense ? Tomlin or Lebeau ? My guess is Tomlin and this limited what Lebeau could do .

Lebeau sucks at drafting. Glad hes gone so they can get some good defenders.

I very much disagree this is the "right move", let alone the "obviously" right move.

If this was his decision that changes everything, of course.

I just hope this isn't another Arians-style situation.

First off, your a Cowboys fans (in fact your all over the place with your sports allegiances: Braves, Cowboys, Pens. The word bandwagon comes to mind when describing you), why do you even care what the Steelers do? Second, Colbert and Tomlin have more say in the draft then anyone else and third, regardless of your negative personal opinion of him, he's still one of the best DC in the game and possibly ever in football and it's a shame he's now off the team.

Such a ignorant opinion, like usual from you.

I posted this on the Yahoo article regarding the news but does anyone in some way fear for LeBeau's life if he can't find a job? It seems a lot of older individuals who spend their entire lives working tend to severely regress health-wise after they're done working. It happened to my grandpa and it's happened to a lot of people who are (semi) famous who decide to call it quits at a much later age. This man throughout his entire adult life has known nothing but playing/coaching football and if it suddenly ends, what does he realistically have left? Hobbies and vacation mean nothing. This was his life in a nutshell.

Like Bear Bryant Syndrome?

Hope not. I'm sorry about your grandpa, cma.

stunned that people actually believe the steelers when they say Lebeau resigned or that the decision was mutual.

Aw, damn. I didn't see that. :(

Still, it could've been a decision to give Butler his chance.

Lebeau is old. The defense sucked. It's time for him to move on.

I'm not even a Steelers fan, but even from an outsiders perspective it seemed like it was time to move on. He didn't have the best talent to work with the last few years, but at some point some of the blame falls on him too. No shame in that. He's a HOF coach. Sometimes it's just better to end things and leave on good terms.

If the Steelers want a change in the defense, why hire Butler? It will be more of the same.

Butler is going to be the next defensive coordinator. He plays a 3-4 defense but has different ideological views on defense from LeBeau. It will be a much bigger change than most realize. Plays a 3-4/Tampa 2 hybrid from what i understand.

Also, the Steelers (And Tomlin) have absolutely no interest in a 4-3. It's not happening.

He sucks at signing FAs too. ;) Thomas and Mitchell are the worst signings ever. What were you thinking DL?

It's all happening because Rooney cares more about making money than winning.

Actually it happened because the GM failed to address their biggest off-season need, defensive backs. Just like when Dopey Opie signed Volquez instead of a real pitcher. Only difference being the Steelers were up against the cap.
