Brewing purity laws in Europe also help.

Not so much in the quality of beer, but more as a trademark name i.e. you won't see a Sierra Nevada on the shelves in Europe (or maybe you will...haven't been there myself). The craft beer phenomenon in the US is pretty young, so I think it will take some time before it's more refined. I think there are many American beers that I enjoy more than I would a Euopean beer. Right now we're in the experimentation phase with some really great results but also some really bad results.
I suppose in my mind, quality is most important. I don't really care if Europe imports any beer from USA. I'd imagine in the coming years, they will as more expats that grew up on craft beer will likely start to ask for it, but if the quality is comparable, I don't see how we're lagging at all.

What do you mean? You won't see a Sierra Nevada in Europe and so the "trademark name" is lagging? Do you mean Europeans don't know about American craft brews? I don't understand how this is evidence of "lagging" by American brewers.

This is kind of a strange way to look at it. You can find american beer in Europe, but it won't be the best beer. (ETA - Many craft brews aren't going to spend time and money to extend their reach to Europe)
Aside from that, like others have said, it's not a straight comparison. Regardless of how long they've been doing it, some of the breweries are world class. And some of the breweries in Europe who have been doing it for ages are not. Longevity doesn't always mean quality, and relative newness doesn't mean lacking. The US could continue brewing for another couple hundred years, but that doesn't mean that the beer will keep getting better.

i wouldn't be surprised if a large portion (if not a majority) of european beer enthusiasts were very envious of the domestic beer that's available to US consumers.

Craft beer is moving to Europe. Victory already has a pub in Vienna where they brew a version of Hop Devil amongst other more traditional beers. Stone is planning on starting a large scale brewery in Berlin. Variety is the spice of life.

funny enough, I was watching chug: Budapest on Nat geo and the craft beer places there have said that the American craft beer revolution has inspired European countries to start making good beer again.

Atwater Vanilla Java Porter was in our Beer Advent Calendar case. I was expecting something decent, but it's really egregiously watery. It may taste more like water than it does vanilla or java.

Note: this thread is almost seven years old. If you want to see how much craft beer and beer in general has changed, look no further than the first pages of this thread. And also consider how many of your favorites did not exist when this thread began

I had a Southern Tier 2xpresso last night. Very smooth and creamy (not real heavy), if you like coffee, this is a good one. Didn't taste the lemon until the beer warmed up. I don't normally drink caffeine and probably shouldn't have opened this at 9PM.

I feel like Eulogy doesn't deserve to be on that list. I feel like it has gone downhill recently. I went during the summer there and the food was horrible. Their Belgium style fries were cut way too thick and their mussels weren't that good. Monks was far better.
