I had no idea she was so (relatively) young, I was expecting her to be a little older

RIP Edward Herrmann

http://m.tmz.com/2014/12/31/edward-herr ... ore-girls/
Edward Herrmann -- perhaps best known for playing Richard Gilmore on "Gilmore Girls" -- died this morning in a hospital in New York. He was 71. Herrmann's family tells TMZ he had been battling brain cancer and had been in ICU for the last 3 1/2 weeks. Ultimately, things did not improve and his family decided to take him off the respirator. Herrmann was married twice and and his second wife Star tells TMZ the actor leaves behind 3 children. Herrmann was on "Gilmore Girls" for its entire run and recently appeared in several episodes of "The Good Wife." He was also nominated for an emmy for his portrayal of Franklin D. Roosevelt in the '70's, was the head vampire in "The Lost Boys," and  famously starred alongside Macaulay Culkin in "Richie Rich."Lauren Graham -- Herrmann's TV daughter -- tweeted, "My friend Ed Herrmann was the kindest, classiest, most talented man.  It was an honor and a joy to know him, a devastating blow to lose him."

RIP Donna Douglas, Ellie May from The Beverly Hillbillies

http://www.nbc12.com/story/27748304/don ... -at-age-81" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Douglas was an actress, best known for her role as Elly May Clampett, the only daughter of Jed Clampett, in the CBS television series The Beverly Hillbillies.

In 2011, Douglas sued toy manufacturer Mattel Inc., claiming the company used her name and likeness for a Barbie doll without authorization. The suit was settled.

She was born in 1933, in Pride, LA and lived in Zachary, LA.

Douglas attended St. Gerard High School, a Roman Catholic school, where she played softball and basketball. She was a member of the school's first graduating class.

She was a "Miss Baton Rouge" and was named "Miss New Orleans" in 1957.

RIP. Met him at the opry a few years ago. I would have loved to have sat and talked with him. Talk about a guy who saw it all. His mailbox at the opry was always full, and was the only one out of order. If it was where it should be, he wouldn't have been able to reach it.

Man, that's sad news. I really find ESPN hard to take these days, but I have so many awesome memories of Sportscenter as a kid, when it was really in its heyday. In thinking back, I almost wonder if what I began to dislike about ESPN was how contrived the humor and wit seemed to become. In a way, I think it sort of felt like all these younger guys were trying to be Stuart Scott, Dan Patrick, Rich Eisen, Keith Olbermann. Maybe it was just because I was a kid, but I would watch those heyday Sportscenters over and over every morning in the summer.
