Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Yup. Since we were doing an advent calendar we all bought a case of something, and theoretically we all should have had 23 beers different from our own, but 2 people didn't show up, so there were some duplicates.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Drank a Corsedonk Christmas Ale, Devil Dancer and a Delirium Noel so far. Feeling it a bit.
The DD was awesome. Wouldn't go any hoppier than that, but it was a great experience.
The Delirium was surprisingly a bit boozy for my liking... I seem to remember it being smoother the last time I had it. Corsedonk was tasty.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Rivertowne beer hits that okay but not great note every time. It's like they try too hard to do something different and items out very average.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
My beer exchange turned out pretty nice. Will post more details later.
Acquired somw growlers to enjoy later... Sugar Plum Fairy (holiday saison) from Hop Farm, Gui from Roundabout and Snowbound Cinnamon from Arsenal.
I also got a 64 of cinnamon and a 32 of peach cider for myself, a 32 of cinnamon and ginger for my sisters.
Great day for beer/cider.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
My wife's side of the family all got me one or more of 3 things: Beer, coffee, socks.
Beer haul:
Lagerheads Brewing (Medina, OH): Barnburner Lager and Winter Mischief
Fatheads: Headhunter (2 four packs... hell yeah) and Holly Jolly
Great Lakes: Blackout Stout and Christmas Ale
And then a gift basket filled with 8 bottles of various Christmas beer.
They are all currently in the beer fridge, chilling and waiting to be enjoyed.

Just looked at the NC representative. Snozzberry? Should probably try before passing judgement, but I'd probably go with NoDa's Hop Drop and Roll. Excellent ipa. And actually gets a higher BA rating than the one they listed.Troy Loney wrote:http://coolmaterial.com/feature/the-hig ... ery-state/

You should stop. (assuming you are in the area). You aren't going to find anything uber rare per se, but they have a nice selection, generally reasonably priced, and they seem to get limited edition releases in (they apparently got some BCBS for instance).Eismann wrote:I still have not been to Hal's yet.the wicked child wrote:Also stopped @ Hal's. Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Okay, so my beer exchange went as follows: Beer (category)
Ayinger Weizenbock ( hefeweisse (including dunkel and weizenbock))
Piraat (non-US/germany/belgium) - my friend misinterpreted this category and got a belgian... but not complaining
Golden Draak (belgian)
Southern Tier Pumking (wild card)
Oscar Blues G'Knight (canned)
Weihenstephaner Original (lager (excluding macros))
Harpoon Chocolate Stout (Christmas/winter seasonal)
Weyerbacher Nineteen (wheat, excluding hefe's)
North Country Firehouse Red (amber/brown/red ale)
Duclaw Sweet Baby Jesus (stout/porter)
Duclaw Serum (ipa/pale)
Angry Orchard Cinnful Apple (wine/mead/cider)
Fairly happy with this.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Had Rivertowne Grateful White on tap tonight, and my god was it bad.
Honestly, I think it's one of the only beers I can say for a fact tastes worse on tap than it does bottled/canned.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
So the beers I tried last night...
Hop Farm Sugar Plum Fairy. I'm still not quite sure what to make of it. Website describes it as a saison brewed with plums, black currants and subtle spices. None of us could really put our fingers on what we were tasting. It was interesting, but probably wouldn't get again. It was uber strong... I'm guessing around 0 or so based on the effect it had on me.
Roundabout Gui. Real nice belgian strong ale. Packs a punch @ 10.5%, but it's tasty.
Arsenal Cider House Snowbound Cinnamon. Now this is what cider is meant to be. So f'n good. I suspect witchcraft, and I am fine with it. Amazingly smooth, and a real nice cinnamon taste. If you like cider and cinnamon... you need to try this.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Allagash Tripel - solid
Lost Abbey Gift of the Magi - holy crap, this is a big beer. Not so much hot but the 12.5% and Brett flavor make drinking an entire 750 ML quite a chore. Belgian Strong is probably not my thing. Strong Darks and Strong Pales, yeah, but the straight strong ale is a bit much for me.

A total gamble on flavor that paid off. Glad that you enjoyed it ... and you are most welcome!llipgh2 wrote:The Belchin Beaver Horchata Stout is incredible. Smooth coffee and chocolate tones, and a hint of cinnamon. Yum. Thanks McK!
Black Market Triple Rye IPA Holiday Special. A black IPA by design with a resin flavor of fresh pine. Headed to the brewery to snag a few more bottles.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Well, unexpectedly received a Russian River Supplication from my uncle this evening. They did a one bottle limit release last week, and how knows how big a fan I am so he grabbed me one. AND, I got to try Pliny the Elder. His go to spot has its own canning operation and they were canning 32 oz cans of Pliny for customers on Christmas Eve, so he brought one of the three he picked up. It is excellent. Nice little day.

Finally have tried Troegs. The Hop Back Amber Ale is more enjoyable (to my tastes) than most IPA style beers I've had.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
All of that overshadowed the rest of my day. Whole Foods got a few bottles of Rodenbach Caractère Rouge, considered one of the best Flanders in the world (better be at the $24 price tag). Figured I couldn't claim to be a Flanders fan if I passed on buying one. Also grabbed a couple sours from Free Will at WF. While browsing I had a Smuttlabs Grisette, which is a pretty nice little table beer. This evening I also tried a Neshaminy Creek County Line IPA also. Pretty solid.

Interesting. I didn't care much for the zywiec lager, but gave it a whirl to see how Poland rolls.canaan wrote:Had a zywiec porter tonight...i actually enjoyed it.
