Before reading that list, I'm going to set the over/under on IPAs at 32.5.

ha...poor west virginia. their best beer has a paltry 3.67 beer advocate score. the dakotas aren't far behind.

LOTS of barrel aged stouts. i'm curious where that market is going. i love me some BA beer, and will be extremely pleased if every bourbon barrel in the world gets a second life with a stout in it.

What exactly is a Wild Ale?

Also, there may have been more imperial stouts than IPAs, by my count.

My paper tally says 13-16 IPA to Imp. Stout, but I didn't count the Wyoming standard stout.

American Strong Ale. 12.5%

A blend of bourbon barrel-aged Serpent’s Stout and brandy barrel-aged Angels Share, Deliverance is the epic battle being waged between heaven and hell for the souls of mortal men… and your enjoyment in a glass.

Sounds intense.
a lost abbey beer is a great gift because it's going to be great, but there's no way it's worth the price it costs to get one.
Now that LA distributes here, I don't find the prices that objectionable. A 750 ML Red Barn Ale, for example, is $10.99. $10-$12 is what I expect to pay for a big bottle of something good. Now, the $29.99 I paid for the Red Poppy Ale at Ho1kB a few years ago before they distributed....that I found objectionable, even though it was a really good sour. The Deliverance is very pricey at $16 for 375ML, but it is bourbon/brandy aged, and seems to be one of the best strong ales out there, so, meh, that's not that outrageous.

yeah, i mean it's all relative. as long as a good beer is cheaper than good wine, i usually don't feel like i'm being ripped off. i'm the guy who bought a crap ton of BCBS last month with an average price of $10 a bottle (while it seems like the rest of the country was finding 4 packs for 25 bucks).

but $16.99 for 12 ounces is tough to accept, still. if you look at that price in the context of the retail craft beer market, that should get you just about the best thing you've ever drank.

Yeah, that's fair. Discounting the Pittsburgh premium, it's probably more like $14 in Philly. Still, should be one of the best of its kind at that price. Luckily, judging by the opinion of those more acquainted with American Strong Ales than I, it seems to be.

NAME COUNT ABV SCORE
1 Hair of the Dog Matt 436 12.5% 4.19
2 Port Brewing Older Viscosity 1017 12.0% 4.09
3 Lost Abbey Deliverance 661 12.5% 4.09

3 Melange No. 3

related note...the nerds on beeradvocate keep slamming retailers for selling BCBS at $10 per bottle. it's supremely annoying. it's 13.8% abv. it's regarded by many (enough people to move the needle anyways) as one of the best beers in the world. and it's only available in most places for a blink of an eye.

$10 could be considered under-priced. and also, if it was a $20 bomber (like barrel aged narwhal), people wouldn't say boo. hell, brooklyn black ops, which is good, but an inferior beer of the same style, is $30 for 25 ounces. i guess people get mad when it's $6 at one store and $10 at another, but to say you're boycotting it because of the price or you get pissy because someone like me is willing to spend an arm and a leg to stock up is stupid. and you should feel as such.

Definitely agree with this. Wish more were widely available.

Terrapin Liquid Bliss, peanut butter chocolate Porter. Average. Can taste both flavors, but not strong. Just lacks depth at the end.

Drinking the Winter Cheers now. So good. I don't really remember the saisonesque aspect last year, but it really works here. This might well be their best wheat beer.
