This could have major ramifications for the NHL and North American pro hockey, and maybe soon. Would the NHL waive it's rules about players returning or coming over from Europe in the middle of a season?

Only name I can think of is Radulov (sp??) who used to play in Nashville that I would be interested in. I remember him being kinda tough not sure if he had a good 2 way game.

Would be weird if the boarders opened for the rest of this season, if all players went through waivers the bottom teams would become stronger right away.

Can't forget Kovalchuk...even if both of them decided to come back over here to play, they probably wouldn't even clear waivers enough for the Pens to be able to snag one.

After reading those articles it looks like only 3 or so teams will fold, and at best there might only be 5 players on each team worth signing. But most likely the league will move those players to other Russian teams rather than losing them to the NHL.

It will be up to the players if they want to leave to be paid in American dollars. That isn't a bad option concidering getting paid in Rubles means you are making nothing until the Ruble rebounds.

KHL will be fine. I doubt Radulov would leave Russia for what, a 3rd or 4th time...doesn't make sense. And Kovalchuk can't come back without a unanimous vote of the NHL GMs to allow it. So, fat chance there...

I would also think Kovalchuk would be New Jersey property still as well? At least he would owe it to them.

Yeah, I believe they own his rights until 35. Or some such.
