He hasn't provided good goaltending in 4 or 5 seasons. Over the previous 3 seasons, he had the worst combined SV% of any starter in the league and was just barely above the .900 mark.meow wrote:Martin Brodeur should have stayed retired. That was...not good...goaltending.

He played very well for the Devils in the 2012 run to the Final. "5 seasons" is a strong indictment and one that I would not subscribe to...2013 and 2014 were a disaster though, yes.

i thought his play during the run to the finals a couple years ago was an illusion. he did ok against LA, but prior to that, he looked like a guy that would let in any halfway decent shot...but the guys in front of him weren't letting that happen.

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
People get confused by the goals he allows because he doesn't stop, drop and block like a lot of the clowns now-a-days. So people see their idea of a "soft goal" now because it's unusual. But don't remark he makes a save up high or a play with his stick that current butterfly goalies are incapable of making because a red light doesn't go on when a save is made...

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
it wasn't about the goals that he allowed. it was about him lumbering around the crease like he was made of bags of sand. i dunno...hard to illustrate, impossible to prove. he just made me very uneasy against the flyers. but they just couldn't get any good chances on him.mikey287 wrote:People get confused by the goals he allows because he doesn't stop, drop and block like a lot of the clowns now-a-days. Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
There is a reason there are so few Johnny Standups anymore. That style does not work in this day in age. Good for Brodeur, Thomas, and all the other wackos that somehow made it work for as long as they did, but with the way offense is created now, selecting the butterfly is the best percentage play to make on 95% of shots. Too many tips, screens, deflections and rebounds to try and make skate saves. Goalies have to fill the net as much as possible, play the percentages, and try to control rebounds. For an example, look at late 80's games. How many goals were fired through screens? Next to none. Now you can rarely beat a goal on an unscreened shot. Just because goalies are quieter in the net and play the percentages doesn't make them clowns - it is needed to survive.mikey287 wrote:People get confused by the goals he allows because he doesn't stop, drop and block like a lot of the clowns now-a-days. Yeah, I don't disagree. I just prefer standup or hybrid goaltenders. I guess I just don't care much for how hockey is played in general these days. No position is at its finest point outside of maybe defensemen and bottom-six forwards...

The ebb and flow of hockey through the decades. Not all positions can be at their finest at the same time.

Perhaps the Blues did no favor to Allen by bringing in Brodeur?

Go, Blues! I'm calling it a comeback!
Two quick goals to get them back in it vs. the Isles.
I've had about enough of the Isles. Enough, I say.

Tim Peel gifts the Isles a 4-3 lead. Is there a worse game ref in the league?

And the Flyers fans that support this just piss me off with their hypocrisy, given how much they love to remind every Penguins fan over the years that our franchise "had to suck to be any good" by getting the talent we did.Beveridge wrote:littlemoonboot wrote:Buffalo and Carolina are actually ahead of the Flyers in the standings. I didn't realize they were THAT bad. They really suck.
Only worse teams right now are Lumbus and Edmonton.

Oh look, the NHLN is playing a different game than what Comcast indicates.
