Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
1st beer of the calendar is Sierra Nevada Celebration Fresh Hop IPA.
Still not a huge fan of them, and wouldn't go out of my way to try and drink this again, but for the style it's fairly good. Not insanely hoppy.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
LOVE the idea of the beer advent calendar. Wish I would have thought of that/read about it a few days ago so I could have done something like that with my friends.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Since it's too late to do the full advent calendar now, might see if my friends want to do a "12 beers of christmas" kind of deal in its stead.

Heh...just stumbled upon a couple of bottles of barrel-aged narwhal at a random beer store.
I'm not a huge narwhal fan anymore, but this is definitely worth a try and is highly regarded.

Had a Taquair House Ale last night and it was exceptional. It's a Scottish wee heavy, and I highly recommend it for anyone that likes malty, oaky beers.

Why does Rogue insist on doing things like this?

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
BCBS final update #2...my friend keeps finding it in Philly near his house. He's selling me half his hauls.
I now have...
13 regular stouts
3 barley wines
1 coffee stout
Life is good.

Today's beer was Victory Hop Devil. Not a huge fan, but it was closer to the Celebration than other IPAs I've drank.

Southern Tier Creme Brulee. Bomber bottle, so there was enough to share.
I can not recall ever having something this different in flavor. Dark black malts and stout backbone, followed by such an intense nose and taste of warmed cream and caramel. Potent flavor that finally allowed a coffee finish at the end of the glass. A really great dessert beer.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Doing Day 4 of the Beer Advent early due to online classes and being out tonight. Day 4 brings Block House Brewing (Latrobe, owned by Pittsburgh Brewing Company) Double Chocolate Bock.
This may be better than Boulder Shake. It's a bock, so it's a little lighter-bodied compared to Shake, but it tastes like I'm drinking straight hot chocolate (that is chilled and has alcohol in it). You want to talk dessert beers, this is probably the epitome of a dessert beer (though I say that never having had Creme Brulee). And at 6.5%, I could see myself getting into so much trouble with this if I ever got my hands on a case. There is little to no alcohol taste whatsoever.
May be my new favorite chocolate-related beer.

for low alc % (below 7%) chocolate sodas, I highly recommend Sammy Smiths Organic Chocolate Stout. Never had the Block House, just read a good article on it.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I've only tried a few chocolate flavored beers that weren't stouts, and they always seem to light to hold the chocolate flavor, if that makes sense. The thickness of the stout seems better suited for it. It's almost like the difference between hot chocolate in water compared to in milk.

I'd agree, but this one was different.MWB wrote:I've only tried a few chocolate flavored beers that weren't stouts, and they always seem to light to hold the chocolate flavor, if that makes sense. And yes, it was like the Sam Smith Organic, but slightly lighter bodied. But still full-flavored, if that makes sense. It was thick enough to hold the flavor, but not as thick as a stout.

The consistency of a Root Beer Float is perfect for the style. Imperial Russian Stout comes to mind.MRandall25 wrote:I'd agree, but this one was different.MWB wrote:I've only tried a few chocolate flavored beers that weren't stouts, and they always seem to light to hold the chocolate flavor, if that makes sense. There has yet to be a beer from Blockhouse that I've found decent. Hated the double chocolate bock and their pumpkin was the most disgusting beer I've ever had
