That's pretty cool. Also sobering reminder that every day we lose more and more of the WWII vets. I wonder how many are left.

Was a huge fan of 'Battlestar Galactica' as a kid. I liked that the Cylons wore hockey gloves, and there was one episode where the Colonials had to parachute in somewhere and they were wearing hockey helmets.
Hard to believe that show cost $1 million per episode. That's what Star Trek: TNG cost fully ten years later, and that was a big deal.

He is one of a few that has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award.

Re: RIP Thread
My across the street neighbor made many movies with 'Mike' in the 60s and 70s. They had a pretty close friendship. Watch 'Catch-22' sometime; my neighbor is flying one of the B-25. He wasn't rated to fly it, but one of the pilots was a no-show and my neighbor just happened to have twin-engine prop experience (Korea vet) in a similar aircraft. So they put the pilot's ill-fitting wardrobe on my neighbor and he made his feature film debut. He also sold a car to Jack Nicholson while making 'Carnal Knowledge'. You know, like you do.
This is one of my favorite vignettes in any movie, my favorite from a Mike Nichols movie and it also happens to be my favorite Robin Williams scene. The acting and direction in this clip are perfect. Such a beautiful moment of quietness could only be this effective amid the chaos that characterizes the rest of the film.

RIP Mike.

Here's a nice little write up on how Nichols Virginia Woolf changed the ratings system

Re: RIP Thread
Wow, the big takeaway from that article for me was that Woolf was nominated in every Oscar category. Impressive.

Re: RIP Thread
The Graduate was one of those cutting edge defining movies that really played well to the younger crowd at the time. Funny thing was that the older Mrs Robinson was played by Anne Bancroft who was only a few years older than grad Ben played by Dustin Hoffman. The scene with Hoffman and Katherine Ross on the bus at the end has to be one of the classic movie scenes of all time.
Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf seemed like an over-rated gabfest to me. I saw it when it came out as a teen so maybe I was too young to appreciate it. Great cast with Burton, Taylor, and very young George Segal and Sandy Dennis who I liked in a lot of movies afterward. But someone would have to give me $100 and a case of yeungling to watch Virginia Wolf again.
Catch 22 was a movie that just couldn't translate from book to movie. The book is one of my top 5. Ron Heller never wrote anything after that I liked.
