Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
those saves are fun, but i'm never super impressed by them. 9 times out of 10, the goalie does the same move, and the puck's in the back of the net. i'm not much of a fleury guy, but he's had some saves over the years that took luck out of the equation and were just a result of pure skill and athleticism.

If Marc-Andre Fleury gave up the goal that Brayden Holtby did tonight, there'd probably be 60 articles written about it tomorrow.
But it wasn't Fleury, so apparently no one notices it.

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
But see...there's a reason for that. Sure, you can find any goalie making a stupid play...Holtby here, Quick in the playoffs, etc. But why does it feel like Fleury is singled out? And I don't even live in Pittsburgh so the media near me (NY media) isn't aimed toward the Penguins.MRandall25 wrote:If Marc-Andre Fleury gave up the goal that Brayden Holtby did tonight, there'd probably be 60 articles written about it tomorrow.

Fleury has made more of these stupid plays more than any goalie over the last few years. One stupid mistake is fine, but Fleury was literally pulled from a playoff because he kept making terrible...I don't even know what to call them...attempts at saves?

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
It's confirmation bias. All started with the World Juniors thing. People wait for him to mess up more than any other goalie so that when it happens they can say "I told you so".
Not going to make excuses for 2013, but I can almost guarantee that if you take that out of the equation, Fleury gives up no more of these goals than any other goalie in the league. But because he had a bad play way back in Juniors, people sit there and wait for him to mess up so they can say they're right.

Toronto allowed a "lovely" high-stick goal yesterday. Spoiled due to size.

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
In my constant effort to keep track of all the Pittsburgh area players, I was pretty surprised to see Vincent Trocheck start the season in the minors after a pretty solid showing for Florida at the end of last season. The Panthers injuries opened a roster spot for him and he's once again earning his place in the league. Two assists last night, giving him four in six games this season.
For comparisons sake offensive black holes Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau are at three points in 12 games and two points in 11 games.

Bjustad too has been invisble. Lots of power fwds down there, but they cant hold onto the puck. I wonder if Florida would be interested in swapping Huberdeau for Bennett + package? Seems like each player would fit the other team's offensive needs better. Jokinen-trochek-hayes seems to ne their best line right now.

I think Florida had their roster fairly set going into the year and were unprepared for Trocheck to play as well as he did.

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
They have a camera directly over top of the goal to see whether the puck crosses the line. These type of plays are pretty frequent. Why not have some sort of panoramic camera level with the crossbar as well to have definitive shots of the plays.Avyran wrote:Toronto allowed a "lovely" high-stick goal yesterday. So the NHL has NOT canceled the Sharks-Sabres game. I'm assuming the Sharks are already in town. But I'm wondering if all the Sabres players will be able to make it to the rink in time.

More people at the game than there are at Panthers games sometimes.

Beck with his third point of the night. Not bad for a guy who didn't have a contract until near the end of training camp, and had to settle for a league minimum deal.

Gionta got his first (and second) goal of the season last night in the Sabres win. That's just sad.

Even I can see the Flyers D is sorely lacking. They keep this up they'll be irrelevant by Christmas. Wouldn't it be something to have Simmonds for Harrington?
