The Kasteel Rouge is an intensely flavored beverage. I like it quite a bit, but in a once a year type of way.

Green Flash variety on sale for $52. Pulled the trigger. West Coast IPA, Hop Head Red, and Double Stout. Funny, I would never have imagined this is something is buy even a year ago. Had the hop head red a month or so ago and absolutely loved the aroma. Haven't had the double stout before. Will report back later tonight most likely.

This sounds like a high potential option.Kraftster wrote:Green Flash variety on sale for $52. Pulled the trigger. West Coast IPA, Hop Head Red, and Double Stout. Great Divide - Orabelle...not bad. Nothing special. It makes me want to have a franziskaner.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Had a delicious beer tonight for dessert. A local place (Elk Creek Cafe + Aleworks) had a porter that was aged in a bourbon barrel for 2 years. They served it with a chocolate bourbon truffle. Alone, the porter was strongly bourbon flavored and then about a second or two after swallowing it was coffee and chocolate in the mouth. Eating the truffle and then drinking it just made those later tastes more intense. Was very good.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
That Green Flash imp stout is legit. Just what I want in one. Maybe a tad thin on mouthfeel but great flavor on the front and hops on the back. The hops give a killer cigar/tobacco/peat flavor on the finish.

After drinking all 4, I concur. The Black IPA is also probably my favorite of the style that I have tried. Admittedly, that list is short, but still. Great variety pack though.slappybrown wrote:Surprisingly, arrogant bastard was my least favorite of the 4. I had only had it a few times before this. Thanks for this review. I've hesitated on getting this a few times and picked other bottles, but ahould probably give it a try.Kraftster wrote:That Green Flash imp stout is legit. Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Yea, agreed on all fronts. To be honest, I can't have had more than a handful of black IPAs in my life, and the Stone's version is the only one I can recall drinking, so its at the top of my list for that style as well. It is a good beer.the wicked child wrote:After drinking all 4, I concur. The Black IPA is also probably my favorite of the style that I have tried. Admittedly, that list is short, but still. Tried my first sour - Monks Cafe Flemish Sour Red. Not sure what to think. My first impression was that it was awful. The more I drink, the better it gets. It's a style I'll try again, but probably not something I would drink consistently.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Dark Penance was excellent! Lots of piney hops up front that are mellowed a bit in the middle by the roasted malts. It's an all hop finish, though. The bottle had it labeled as 100 IBUIs, but I didn't find it unbearably bitter at all. A bit on the boozy side, but overall excellent!eddysnake wrote:Oooo I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the dark penance.
I can't really speak to comparisons within the style, as I'm honestly not sure I've had another imperial black ipa. I will say I'll be picking up more of this soon, though!

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
It's definitely a style that on my first sip, my thought was certainly "wtf is this??? this isn't beer..." It takes some getting used to, but you come to love them if you drink them often enough.MWB wrote:Tried my first sour - Monks Cafe Flemish Sour Red. Not sure what to think. Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
A friend of mine is trying to find this for me in Arizona and bring it back when he's back here for Thanksgiving.

He also has a bottle of wine from Maynard James Keenan's winery, Caducues Cellars, for me to when he gets back.

Picked up a ballast point victory at sea. Sounds like a great beer for cooler weather this week, anyone ever have it?

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Anyone have a recommendation for a sour that doesn't have a lot of funk, but still has a nice sour to it? I think that's the part I didn't like. It almost had a sauerkraut taste, which I hate.count2infinity wrote:It's definitely a style that on my first sip, my thought was certainly "wtf is this??? this isn't beer..." I would drink that regularly, if it weren't $13.99 for a four pack.
I assume it's cheaper in PA.
