My takeaway from that article is why is he getting a check from the Islanders? Have they never heard of Direct Deposit?

His father is Czech, so there has to be a Jagr/gambling tie in somehow. :pop:

They should've punked him back and invented the two-man penalty shot.

I got a kick out of his shrug :lol:

People want to complain about the loophole and have it closed, fair enough. But I can't fault him for getting creative and using it while he could.

Loophole? See I don't get that...the rule states if there's a breakaway and you dislodge the net intentionally, it's a penalty shot.

In this case, there was a breakaway and the goalie dislodged the net and it was a penalty shot.

It seems like a rule is already in place and it was called accordingly...

Meh, just responding to people complaining and calling it "bush league" and that the penalty wasn't severe enough.

Using Z-Score Adjusted Fenwick For Percentage to compare good and bad starts around the NHL? http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/comp ... d-the-nhl/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My appetite for advanced stats in hockey is not very great.

Yeah, sorry, I didn't mean for that to me at you necessarily. I saw that consternation as well, and I didn't understand it. "It should be an automatic goal!" Why? What's automatic about that situation? "It should be two penalty shots!" Why? Why try to award something that isn't on the books? "Double minor for delay of game" Same question.

Just doesn't make sense...people just like to complain anymore...and immediately the mind goes to "not fair!!! litigate!" Anyway, enough out of me...

"Calgary’s early-season success is almost entirely PDO driven."

PDO is just adding save pct. and shooting percentage and the letters, evidently, don't stand for anything. But yet Calgary is gettin' high off the fumes...? Are you sure isn't because they've had the best D pairing in the league so far in this young season, as T.J. Brodie and Mark Giordano mop up defensively and are offensively very capable...Brodie in particular is a terrific puck carrier and skater, I was off by one year on his offensive breakout, I said last year, it's actually this year. Last year he took the big step defensively.

It also had negative things to say about Nail Yakupov, who is obviously playing the best hockey of his career this season thus far...

I found it to be a pretty obnoxious article, as I do with most of these early-season articles that seem to accept all of these advanced stats at face value as being representative of what is going on with a particular team on the ice. I've read a number of fantasy hockey articles 5 games into the season talking about regressions that are due because of high SH%, low corsi, or catawampus PDO. Yep, okay, it's the catawampus PDO after five whole games that explains for me why Brock Nelson won't finish with 225 points this year. I'm seriously about ready to divorce from Dobber over this obsession with advanced stats.

Back to that article. Yeah...I mean, I'm not watching Edmonton games, so I can't say that this statement is untrue, but: "The Edmonton Oilers’ recent string of success is largely being driven by contributions from the likes of Jesse Joensuu (56.73%), Boyd Gordon (52.82%) and Jeff Petry (52.71%)." Wut? Again, not watching, but I'd be shocked if Joensuu, Gordon, and Petry are "largely driving" Edmonton's little run of success the past couple weeks.
