Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
This was planned last season. Buffalo is pretty much in the middle between Erie and Niagara, and they have played preseason games there before. With this being McDavid's draft year and him being the current projected #1 (Strome is also projected to be a first rounder) and the #5 team in the CHL according the BMO rankings, there is excitement in Buffalo at the prospect of seeing McDavid and the Otters play. It's a business no-brainer to do this...and they will probably out draw the Sabres for attendance for the game.MRandall25 wrote:Apparently the Erie Otters are playing in Buffalo.
I'd laugh if this was to showcase McDavid to the fans, and then Buffalo loses the lottery.

There should be excitement. McDavid is a treat to watch.
I saw him play 2 years ago, and he was amazing. He was just 15. I'm going up on Nov. 8th to see him play again. Can't wait to see how much he's improved.

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
He's filthy, explosive. Every night he plays he does something that you just go 'Did that just happen? How did he pull that off?". It's been fantastic for the franchise and the city (to have sucked so bad, LOL) to have had the opportunity to draft him and bring the team back to respectability again.
The supporting cast, on paper, you wouldn't think would be as good. The team lost Dane Fox, Connor Brown, Andre Burakovsky, Oscar Dansk, and Adam Pelech coming into this season. But Strome has stepped up his game and many other players had NHL camp invites as well so along with that experience, the playoff run last year, and the stellar play as a team (including some outstanding rookies) they are primed for a run. I'm sure come deadline time another experienced piece or two will be added but this team should have an excellent chance at the OHL championship, let alone a Memorial Cup. Coach Knoblauch has done an fantastic job with these kids since taking over the helm.

And back then, the Pens and Flyers were clearly on different levels play-wise. Today, not quite so much.pens2005 wrote:Haha I know. My point was that trading to an interdivisonal rival is risky.columbia wrote:pens2005 wrote: I hate trading with Philly
And, I agree with others - would not want to give Philly any defensive improvement. I enjoy their defense as it is.

The Erie Otters (at the time of this post) have scored 7 goals in their game being played at the Sabres home arena.
The Sabres have scored 8 goals total this year.

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
Coyle for 5 years at $16m is a friggin awesome signing. I'm jealous. He's on the verge...
And fwiw, Coyle comes from the same draft as Bennett. Doubt we go that long with Bennett, but assuming the kid stays healthy the rest of the season and gets around 40 points, we're probably looking at 3 years, $3m per. Less if he comes in under 40pts...

Neal has more goals than Hornqvist and they're undefeated.

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
At least the Sabres have a lot of good prospects (Reinhart, Grigorenko, etc), as well as some good pieces to trade away in Stafford & others. The Canes' rebuilding project seems like it will take a lot longer.Kraftster wrote:The Canes and Sabres are so so bad.

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
Trading E.Staal and drafting in the top 2 this year would hasten the Canes rebuild quite a bit. They've still got some nice pieces to build around, whereas Buffalo is starting totally from scratch.

If they trade Eric, do you think Jordan would request a trade as well?

Re: Other NHL games 2014-2015 season
No clue. But I don't think Jordan's desire to not re-sign with the Pens was as much about playing with his brother as it was about not playing behind Sid and Geno.
Marc Staal is also a UFA at season's end. Maybe they all want to party together... who knows? I could see Edm being the perfect fit for the Staals tbh.

At this point in his career, I don't even think E. Staal and their first would get them into the top 2...

The Canes won't need to trade to get into the top 2...
Adding McDavid/Eichel + trading E.Staal = quick rebuild.
