Pronger Interviews with Dept. Of Player Safety
I can't post the story, but it's on Deadspin. Somehow the league thinks it's okay to have Chris Pronger join their Dept. Of Player Safety review board. Provide input on suspensions and crap. While he's still gettin paid by the Flyers and is considered an active player.

I imagine the NHLPA will square this away one way or another.

Every other team in the league should fight that. That is a $4M cap hit for the Flyers.

He should be required to retire (and for the Flyers to take their lumps on the cap), if he wants a job with the league.

Horrible idea and further proof the NHL is not serious about player safety.

Re: Pronger Interviews with Dept. Of Player Safety
Interviewing him is one thing, but if he is offered and accepts the job, the guy needs to retire from the Flyer organization. Bettman says he doesn't owe the Flyers anything, which is true - so why protect the Flyers' interest then, Gary?

Re: Pronger Interviews with Dept. Of Player Safety
Since the NHL has a TV contract with the owners of the Flyers, I'd say that Uncle Gary owes them quite a bit.

I don't see an issue. It's not like what is being done wasn't voted on by all parties.
Wouldn't Pronger not get that money if he retired?

Re: Pronger Interviews with Dept. Of Player Safety
If he retires he's a $4.9 million cap hit for the next three seasons instead of being hidden on LTIR. The issue is him working for the league, while being a paid member of the Flyers because retiring would destroy the Flyers cap situation. Work for the league or work for the Flyers, it can't be both.Beveridge wrote:I don't see an issue. It's not like what is being done wasn't voted on by all parties.

If his cap hit can be forgiven, then give that opportunity to every other team in the league

Re: Pronger Interviews with Dept. Of Player Safety
I understand the cap significance for the Flyers. If Pronger retires, does he get the rest of his money or not? I can totally understand him not officially retiring if he loses that money.

Re: Pronger Interviews with Dept. Of Player Safety
Who cares about the flyers and cap hit, what about the obvious of having the fox guard the hen hole.
Chris Pronger is the last person who should be in charge of player safety when you take into account his past history. He was one of the most dirtiest players of his era and was suspended numerous times.

Re: Pronger Interviews with Dept. Of Player Safety
I think Pronger would be the perfect fit in the Department of Player Safety. Why not have the most sneaky dirty player in the history of the league looking at dirty players.

I would have no problem with Pronger in the position.

Re: Pronger Interviews with Dept. Of Player Safety
Hmm...thought he was going to end being a full-time pro scout for the Flyers (which it appeared he was already doing, to my knowledge)...did not see this coming. But I like it, Chris Pronger can rule on high hits and hire Bryan Marchment to rule on low hits...

Should I be ashamed that I am lost on that reference even after Googling who Viola Davis is.

This is total bull **** if he can stay on LTIR and if he has any influence on discipline involving the Flyers

Good. Perfect guy. Dirty player that had his career ended by a concussion.
