Re: Canaan's thread of NPR chaos.
Jordan Staal left the Canes game on crutches. Apparent leg injury. Couldn't put weight on it.

Next big injury, courtesy of Larry Brooks:
Stepan helped off ice after going down, clutching left leg/knee, during #NYR conditioning test. No contact, simply fell to ice...

Re: Canaan's thread of NPR chaos.
I was wondering when the Canes were going to blow it up and tank for McDavid. Looks like they've got a head start...

Re: Canaan's thread of NPR chaos.
Is McDavid really going to be the next big thing? Ala the next Crosby? Or will he be like Mackinnon or Drouin? I know he's gotten a lot of coverage like Crosby did, but I don't actually know how skilled he is supposed to be.

Better than MacKinnon, not as good as Crosby.

Re: Canaan's thread of NPR chaos.
I saw probably half of McDavid's home games last year. If MacKinnon were a 1 and Crosby were a 10, McDavid is like a 7. Lots of good to say about him. Lots of great to say about him. Very, very few detractions.

I'm really hoping that the Islanders win the lottery and then have to give their pick to Buffalo. That would just be perfect.

Re: Canaan's thread of NPR chaos.
Call me crazy, but I bet Mackinnon ends up a better player than Tavares. He's got that Crosby-esque magic to him...

Re: Canaan's thread of NPR chaos.
Probably a little quicker off the NHL blocks than Tavares. But yeah, he could even be a bit ahead of him at his best. Which, to me, is a top-5 player in the NHL. Which I wouldn't say about a player without provocation, this guy can play...shmenguin wrote:Tavares - level, then?mikey287 wrote:Better than MacKinnon, not as good as Crosby.

Re: Canaan's thread of NPR chaos.
Mackinnon is set up to succeed on that Avs team. They're really stacked offensively: Duchene, Landeskog, O'Reilly, even Iginla & Tanguay.
Tavares, meanwhile, has Okposo and Grabner. Now, they'll be a little bit better with Strome, Grabovski, and Kulemin, but even still, Mackinnon gets to play second fiddle and take advantage of the better matchups.
The Avs and the Lightning are my teams I'm really interested in following this year; lots of good, young talent.

Re: Canaan's thread of NPR chaos.
If you watch the Avs then you probably saw what Mackinnon did in the playoffs... Unbelievable stuff. If that's a sneak preview of what to expect from him, then we're in for a treat.
MacKinnon was also playing 3rd line minutes the first 3rd of the season, partly why his point total isn't dazzling anyone. But if you watch the guy play, then you know what's coming.

Datsyuk has a separated shoulder, stemming from the Scuderi hit. Out 4-5 weeks.

New competition for worst announcers in sports. EJ Hradek and Bylsma are doing color for this US prospects game. So many words, so little insight.

FWIW...
Evander Kane trade to Flyers was almost 'very close' to happening
