Grist House's digs look really nice from the pics I've seen... haven't been overwhelmed with the brews I've tried from them though. Had 3 of em @ the last beerfest and they were just okay.

What beers did Draai Laag have on tap?

That's awesome. Congrats on the half marathon as well, great achievement.

I've never had a Pliny so hopefully it lives up to the hype.

Third. I still want to try them every now and then to see if it changes.
If the three of you haven't already, I think you have to start at the source: Saison Dupont Vieille Provision. Shaf, you should not be having carbonation issues with saisons, or, at the very least, you should not stereotype saisons as being overly carbonated. There may be some out there--Jolly Pumpkin Bam comes to mind--but many saisons are very soft on the palate. I would say that at the correct temperature, the saison dupont should have what I would consider a medium body with a very soft mouthfeel. Some saisons are more prickly, but one of the things I like most about the more classic saisons is the ability to have a nicely bodied beer that finishes extremely dryly.
I took your advice and tried the Saison Dupont. It was, as I often find with saisons, ok. I think part of it is that I don't pick up on the nuances of saisons since I haven't had that much experience with them. I understand what slappy says about it being lite beer with flavorings. It definitely has the light mouth feel to it. I also don't like the dry finish. I really like a good IPA, in part because of the strong, full finish. I have a hard time clearly explaining it, but I like the full mouth feel I get with stouts and IPA's, a feeling that I don't get with a saison. I want to keep trying them, but I would probably be better off waiting for warm weather again when I like a lighter finish.

If you didn't like that, then you probably don't like the style.

Can someone explain mouth feel to me because it sounds like a weird way to describe how a beer tastes. If someone asked me what the mouth feel was for any beer I was drinking, I'd say it feels wet.

Was at the inlaws over the weekend. My wife's step-grandmother passed a couple years ago, and they kept her house, as my wife's step-sister lived in it for about 5 months while their house was being built and my wife's parents plan to live in it for a for about a year while their new house gets built... anyways, we were doing some cleaning and I found a few bottles of wine that the step-sister had left, so we took them, but also found a bottle of hennepin with this label instead of the current one:

how long ago did they change the label to this:

Riffing off of MWB's post: which IPA do I need to drink to definitely clear up whether I like the style, because I've never enjoyed one.

Agreed with shad... DFH 60 min is really the quintessential east coast IPA. Dry, and hoppy. If you want more of a west coast style IPA, Lagunitas is readily available around these parts and Maximus is a great brew.

Technically Sierra Nevada is a pale ale, but it was my gateway into discovering that I like IPAs and other British style beers more than I like German ones. I think it has a lot more in common with IPAs than other popular pale ales like Magic Hat #9.

Southern Tier 2X IPA is another one I'd tell you to try.

edit: Dogfishhead 60 minute as mentioned is another obvious choice.
