Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Had some Arsenal Fighting Elleck @ Stokes. Also tried Terrapin Liquid Bliss, a chocolate peanut butter porter. It's not as good as the Horny Goat of that style, but was still tasty.

Acquired growlers of Arsenal's Archibald's Ado and Concord Grape. Also picked up a growler of the Grierson's Ginger for wallflower. Gonna be a great weekend.

At Harpoon Brewery in Boston. Had their dunkel and Irish stout, which were pretty good. Even had a little of their witte, also good.

As much as I hate pumpkin stouts, I think I like pumpkin ales. Just had a Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale, pretty good

Had a pumpking last night, maybe it was Sierra Nevada fall pack, Hennepin, dirt Wolf, paulaner, ST live, & other assorted beers (kids birthday, so I got to drink all day!) but it was pretty damn good.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Last night ended up being mostly about cider. I reserved the Concord for later use, but we killed the Archibald and Ginger. Had a Franziskaner as my sole beer of the night, otherwise had some Angry Orchard. I'd never buy a case myself, and it certainly isn't in the class of Arsenal, but it's easily the best mass produced cider I've tried.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I was in Charlottesville VA last night and got pretty tuned up on devils backbone Vienna lager and a 70year old bottle of very, very old Fitzgerald.
The db Vienna was tasty. The vvof was out of control, and I'm not a bourbon guy

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Had Dogfish Head Punkin tonight. I like this more than any pumpkin beer I've tasted so far. The pumpkin/spices are mild and subtle rather than that being all you taste. The maltiness shines more than the spices. I think this is my new go to pumpkin beer.

Celebrating my last day of vacay before returning to the grind. Picked up a Grande Reserve 17 from Unibroue.
This is a really fine brew. Very complex, tremendous color, less dense than a typical BSDA. All kinds of fruit notes, but so well balanced so as not to get too loud.
A few reviews have it as too sweet for the authors' liking, and on the fence about the oak aging. So be it. I dig.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I got a pretty good history lesson. It was bottled around 1964 after a bonded 12 year age barrel age (meaning the govt assured it was only 100 proof iirc) VVOF was made under the stitzel-weller distillery by pappy van winkel and became very hard to find. The guy said he paid ~1500$ at auction for it. I doubted that story but after a cursory internet searching, it wasn't out of the scope of believability, as the label was in good shape and was sealed. I took a picture of the bottle. I'll post it tomorrow at work.slappybrown wrote:I'd like to hear further back story on this bourboncanaan wrote:I was in Charlottesville VA last night and got pretty tuned up on devils backbone Vienna lager and a 70year old bottle of very, very old Fitzgerald.

I know TWC will vouch, but Chip's Beer Market in the Outer Banks is just outstanding. Extremely friendly staff, enormous wall of beer singles, and a bunch of other items. Plenty of Oskar Blues of course. Old Chub is solid, and better than Founders Dirty Bastard IMO
