meow's thread of random hockey facts
In the 2006-07 OHL season, James Neal was 4th on his Plymouth Whalers squad in goal scoring behind Tom Sestito, Evan Brophey, and Jared Boll.

That team was nasty to play against...I think that's the team that beat Schremp, Gagner, Patrick Kane, Sergei Kostitsyn and that loaded London Knights team IIRC...grimy little *******...

Mike Cammalleri uses a dual lie stick. There is a bend on the bottom of the blade that gives him a lie of 4 and a lie of 6.

J.S Giguere uses a straw to drink from his water bottle because he takes too much air into his stomach otherwise, which increases his dehydration rate. He also sweats excessively during a game as a side effect of this condition. He sweats so profusely that he drills holes in the bottom of his cowlings to allow the sweat to drain instead of pooling in his boot.

The 1995-96 London Knights accumulated a mere 9 points (3-60-3)(!!). They fired two head coaches during the season and none of the players went on to play a NHL game.

Andy Brown was the last goaltender to play a game without a mask, doing so with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1974.

Huh, new Pens Asst. Coach Gary Agnew took over for London 2 years after that. poor year.
It also surprises me that even though that team only won 3 games, their leading scorer still had 67 points.

That is impressive, although probably for the wrong reasons.meow wrote:The 1995-96 London Knights accumulated a mere 9 points (3-60-3)(!!). They fired two head coaches during the season and none of the players went on to play a NHL game.
Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne are the last two teammates to finish the season with 100+ points each but did not reach the post season

Re: meow's thread of random hockey facts
Prior to 2011, when the Panthers recalled forward Hugh Jessiman (12th selection, 2003 Entry Draft), the last draft class where every first round pick played at least one NHL game was 1983. Of the 21 first round picks, 18/21 played 300+ games.
Not only did every first round pick go on to the NHL, but the first 34 selections and 38 of the first 42 selections went onto play at least one NHL game.

With the 121st pick, the Cryers took Rick Tocchet in the 6th round.
and
Montreal took a 31 year old Vladislav Tretiak in the 7th round.

Re: meow's thread of random hockey facts
From 1984-90, when the Edmonton Oilers won their five Stanley Cups, they had seven first round selections that played a total of 290 NHL games. Of those 290 games, 249 of those games belong to Francois Leroux (who played six games over three seasons with the Oilers.)
Remove Leroux from the equation and that leaves six former prospects with 41 career games played. Of the remaining six, three did not reach the NHL.

Another one related to the Flyers, Montreal, and the draft:
http://www.hockeydraftcentral.com/1981/81047.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Barry Tabobondung attended the 1981 NHL Entry Draft in Montreal, marking only the second year that junior players had attended the draft in large numbers beyond those likely to be taken in the first round. Tabobondung was so excited to be chosen in the third round that he jumped over the front row of seats at the Montreal Forum in order to greet Flyers officials at their draft table. Unfortunately, in one of the draft's most embarrassing moments ever, Tabobondung's foot got stuck in a folding seat, and arena attendants, along with Flyers special-assignments coach Joe Watson, needed at least five minutes in order to get Tabobondung out of the seat. One of the arena attendants had to unscrew a portion of the folding seat to free the player. As Tabobondung was being extracted from the seat, NHL executive vice-president Brian O'Neill, who was running the draft from the main podium, joked the Flyers could at least be sure that Tabobondung would be available for all of their games in Montreal. Flyers coach Pat Quinn responded to O'Neill's joke by saying "We gotta play the kid. Obviously, we can't afford to have him sit." Asked about the incident, Tabobondung jokingly told Jay Greenburg of The Hockey News that he wasn't even embarrassed and was glad he was able to "do something to get the attention off the first-rounders.

one notable name on that team is Wes Goldie, who broke the ECHL's goal-scoring record in 2012 and retired with 370 goals.meow wrote:The 1995-96 London Knights accumulated a mere 9 points (3-60-3)(!!). They fired two head coaches during the season and none of the players went on to play a NHL game.

Re: meow's thread of random hockey facts
When Teemu Selanne originally arrived in Winnipeg, he was considered a restricted (Group IV) free agent. Calgary signed him to an offer sheet of three years, $2.7m. Winnipeg eventually matched the offer.
Prior to joining the Jets, Selanne was also a kindergarten teacher for three years.

There are four Staal's that play hockey. They are all brothers. They all grew up on the same sod farm.
