Re: Your irrational pet peeves

Post by dodint »

Woke up this morning and heard the dog barking outside. She's pretty good about not barking endlessly, but sometimes gets a wild hair up her ass if there is a possum or cat romping around near the fence. Decide to roll out of bed before the neighbors gets upset, and who could blame them. As I'm getting up I discover my dog at the foot of my bed, lazily looking out the window watching my neighbors dog baying away. Awesome. Got to fade back to sleep full of self-satisfaction.

It does. I'd have told her so or at least hinted at it. Fortunately my wife was the one who was told and was neighborly about it.

5 year olds still running around screaming in (basically) my backyard at midnight? Really? They do this 3-4 times a year and it is tiresome.

I need to move to the country and have no neighbors.
I live a few blocks from a university and each year the college rentals spread into the neighborhood. We live close to the borough cutoff and on the other side there is no noise ordinance, I'd take shrieking kids every time over drunk college kids.
My wife and I live in a small set of townhouses directly between two giant apartment complexes for college kids. They're all moving back in this weekend. We might turn on fans and other things tonight to have white noise to try and drown out any party noises.

I don't really mind it all that much. As long as it's weekends. I'm far enough away that we can drown it out with other things.

People at fast food restaurants who take 10 minutes to order.

I was in line at Jersey Mike's today behind a couple who appear to have never heard of the sandwich concept before. And to make matters worse, they had a trainee on assembly, so my sandwich was sub-par.

jersey mikes is good, but this gentleman is curious to get some input on whether or not it is necessary to slice some lunchmeat every time someone orders?

Sliced-to-order is definitely preferable.

Is there a notable difference between slicing it once it's ordered and having it already sliced before someone orders it?

Two big things to note: As soon as you slice something, oxidation begins. Plus, slicing to order (in theory) reduces the amount of surface area exposed to the air, and limits the time of that exposure. Those are all good things for keeping bacteria out of your life.
