I watched season 1 in 3 days. I'd say give it the whole season. Its a slow burn in some ways.

I felt the same way as Idoit40fans. The second episode was better, but it didn't make me excited for the next episode.

Really liked SVU and Oz but never watched the Wire. Weird.

I didnt see Oz. I watched the first episode of the wire last night and i swear its not even the same show i watched last time i thought i watched it. I dont know how i feel about it but it definitely kept my interest enough to keep watching it this weekend.

This might be true for some but it wasn't for me. I wasn't hooked until the last episode or 2 of the first season.

It takes a good 3 or 4 episodes to really start to learn about any of the characters of the wire.

If by the end of season one, you dont care about any of the drug dealers or what happens to them, the show isnt for you. the cops are fairly straightforward characters and youll figure out who you like and who you dont, but basically if you dont care about the black people in the show they it wont do it for you.

I have seen part of the first episode of the wire but didnt like it. How many episodes should i watch to get a good feel for whether or not to stay with it?

I was also pretty meh after the opener, i think i was hooked after the second episode though. I watched the first episode, then a couple days later went to episode two, the lag between episode 1 and 2 was the longest i went between watching.

simon said he would have been ok with a 6th season because it would have allowed him to focus on hispanic gangs, but he was fine with 5 seasons.

Deadwood wasn't done. I never watched the last 2/3 of the third season when I learned it was the end and that nothing was going to get wrapped up.

Deadwood was done in the sense that each season followed a set time frame, and the follow on movies were going to loosely cover the same folks but in much longer time spans. Not sure exactly off hand, but Movie 1 was supposed to be ~10 years and Movie 2 ~30. It has more to do with the railroad making its way out there. So, Deadwood S3 was done in the sense that it ended the same way Deadwood S1/S2 ended, after a set time with the mindset that there would be significant gap in story time before it was picked up again. In essence, it was as wrapped up as it was going to get. They could've edited in a "where they are now" title card to the beginning of the credits without changing the impact to the season/series.

Well, I watched UTD tonight and haven't uttered a peep.

Im 1 week behind and watched an episode last night. The first since Sam went down the cliff. I actually really liked it and liked the direction it went. There was still a lot of bad acting and writing though.
