I dig the curry mussels, which are pretty fantastic at any place that makes them...including Monks.

I went with the Ghent style this time... bacon, leeks, blue cheese. Can't go wrong with that combo.

Yeah, $8.99 is right for Giant Eagle too, I think.

I did the first time I had it. Which was the last time I had it. I think that ruined pumpkin beers and ales for me. I should have had it without the cinnamon/sugar. Made it too dessert like for me.

when they're both on tap at my favorite bar, I get 7/8 pumking 1/8 creme brule stout. It's like drinking pumpkin pie with whipped cream on it, but it has alcohol in it.

About that time again. I need to introduce a new Octoberfest to my palate this year. Normal rotation is great Lakes, Penn, & Brooklyn. What do you guys like?

Didn't try these ones all tonight, but over the past week or so...

Ballast Point Brewing Company, San Diego, CA | Electric Ray India Pale Lager

It was... interesting. I'm not sure that the lager taste goes well with highly hopped beers. It wasn't bad, but it's certainly not something that I would buy again. Glad I tried it though.

Cigar City Brewing, Tampa, FL | Yonder Bock Tropical Maibock (CAN)

This was not my cup of tea. The smell on this beer isn't very strong, but the taste is very sweet and very fruity. Mango comes through pretty strongly. Definitely not something I'm looking for in a beer, but I suppose if you like that sort of thing this would be a good one.

Russian River Brewing Company, Santa Rosa, CA | Yvan the Great Belgian-Style Blonde

Good stuff. Has that Belgian funk that I'm expecting, and it's a very very clean beer. No real hop flavor coming through in nose or taste, just the Belgaininess. Very crisp. Would be great for a summer day, and I'm drinking it tonight when the weather is cool. I should have opened that stout that came in this pack and saved this one for a hot day, but that's on me. Can't complain at all with this beer.

anyone ever try whole hog pumpkin ale or anchor big leaf maple? Walked in the 6 pack shop at lunch and oh my the octoberfests. I'm not sure what to do. perfect for a day like today. If things go well I'm building a fire in the backyard and will hopefully awake in the morning still in the backyard.

This is a really good point about fruity beers. For the most part, this gentleman does not care for them. With that in mind, for the most part these beers do deliver on what they intended. Some of them are a bit over the top with the fruitiness (summer shandy), but they deserve credit for delivering the goods.

Paulaner Octoberfest is one of favorites. I like Saranach as well. Got a bottle of Pumking and a Warlock from the bottle shop today. The cool weather put me in the mood.

So I broke down and decided to try another pumpkin ale. Went with Wolaver's Organic Pumpkin Ale.

I like it. Spicy with a nice undertone of pumpkin. I can drink this.
