Thought about Coburn. Went with Dillon instead.

Coburn was in the running for my lefthanded PK'ing dman... I liked Hejda and Mitchell better ultimately. But Coburn does some heavy lifting for the Flyers. Good choice.

Re: Dispersal Draft Game - Discussion Thread
Very good pickups with Zuccarello & Coburn. I was debating between Coburn & Daley for that last pick, as well as Coburn & Braun, and so on... I was hoping he would slip to the next spot so I could pick him up as a 2nd back up, in case I wanted to switch him out for J. Johnson or something. As for the little guy, I couldn't find a spot for him on my team, but he's a great pickup too.

Coburn's mobility (or lack thereof) scared me. My D can skate and I didn't want him to be an anchor.

Coburn is a very good skater, in my opinion. That's probably his biggest strength.

He can skate for his size, no doubt.

Blithering buzzards, I was sure no one would take my currently unemployed top assistant coach choice, Adam Oates. Grrr, now I will have to go back to the drawing board.

Adam Oates:
Pros: Extremely technical. High tactical knowledge. Determined perfectionist. Power play guru (everyone in the league is stealing his power play).
Cons: Is he too strict for professional players at this level? He seems a little too demanding, too structured, too much of a disciplinarian for NHL players to take seriously.
I've had in the back of my mind for some time now...I can't help but wonder if he becomes U of M's next head coach. As the time for Red Berenson is running low...

I tend to think his coaching style (over-bearing; control-freaky) would be best suited for major junior.

Possible. Major junior is a little more open, with a lot more games. So that's why I suggested college. Armored up, militant dandies willing to dance an Indian mile. No trades, less turnover. More steeped in discipline.

Re: Dispersal Draft Game - Discussion Thread
Those major junior kids will do anything to advance to the next level of hockey. Most of them, anyway - there are always exceptions. College players, at least in my time in college hockey and the connections I still maintain, there is a healthy balance between players looking to take the next step and players looking to get educated and play some hockey while doing it. This is just going from personal experiences, but the more control oriented, heavy-handed coaches were in juniors where they wanted to create hockey players first and individuals second and college coaches were geared toward creating better individuals through hockey. Oates seems like a hockey first kind of guy.
Of course, there are always exceptions....so there's that.

I agree. The lot of you, please send harassing messages to people...even if they are not up...
What do we have, like 10 picks to go and one of them is mine...should be a walk in the park...

Re: Dispersal Draft Game - Discussion Thread
Should have shortened the clock to 8 hours for the last 5 rounds or so. But no big deal. SolidSnake has been PM'd and we can pass the pick over at 5:37 pm Eastern.
