Funny, LITT and I were strongly considering Smith as our back up for the complete opposite reason. I remember when there was discussion before Team Canada selections, a number of folks were talking about the fact that many liked Smith a lot simply because you know what you are going to get from him, making him a very safe choice as a third goalie.Avyran wrote:Smith is, IMO, Lehtonen-lite. Great puck mover to support my defense, and has the ability to singlehandedly win games. However, is very streaky & prone to lose games as well. By having Smith as a backup, I can play him when he's hot, but let Lehtonen carry the bulk of the games. Also won't have to switch my strategy whatsoever with him in (vs. Lehtonen).

I think Smith is the opposite of someone who can singlehandedly win games. Yeah, you know what you're getting, and its a guy who can thrive in a situation where he's protected by a great team defense.Kraftster wrote:Funny, LITT and I were strongly considering Smith as our back up for the complete opposite reason. Re: Dispersal Draft Game - Discussion Thread
Really? I coulda swore Smith was known for being consistently inconsistent. Thought his mental strength wasn't as good as his goaltending capabilities... some parts of the season, he's Vezina-worthy. Guess I'm in the minority for this opinion. Ah well.
This article discusses that:
This article discusses that:
Also, just want to say I love the Granlund pick.Inconsistency in [Smith's] play earlier in the calendar was at least one of the reasons why the Coyotes were in a heated race up until Game 81.
"Goaltending through the middle of the season for me wasn't where it needed to be," Smith said. "I was kind of doing some soul-searching, and we lost some games because of that."
To be fair, this season was unusual for Smith. He was in contention for a spot on Team Canada's Olympic roster, and that decision wasn't far from his mind while performing for the Coyotes up until the Jan. 7 roster reveal.
"Mentally, it was kind of tough leading up to the Olympics and not knowing if I was going to be on the team or not," he said.

Re: Dispersal Draft Game - Discussion Thread
Gonna be honest, my next pick'll take me a bit. Need to do more research for it, & I'm at work doing a project. Will try to at least think about it, though, & check as much as I can.
Also, if we're picking up any players not chosen in the draft, do we need to drop people from our roster to fit them in? How would that work? Is it just first come, first serve? (Just hypothetical.)

That's not a bad idea. Maybe give everyone a mulligan? Add one player and drop one.

Re: Dispersal Draft Game - Discussion Thread
However you want LITT. If you want 24 players and one coach. If you want 20 players, 3 coaches, a mascot and to draft Chirpin' Grinder or Nizzy as a consultant, fine...if you want 25 players and no coach, fine. I'm probably going to go 23+2 coaches, personally.
Add/drop period is normal for these things, but not often heavily utilized. We can easily institute a small window for that in the roster formation period.
