Hanzal was my backup in case Couts was picked...so I guess I'll just go F myself...

Greene should have gone awhile ago probably...he's very underrated...

Don't care much for the Wiz pick honestly...I think he's a horrendous player. But I look forward to the case for him...I'm assuming it's a PP specialist type...

Burns was a player that I wanted to pick, but didn't know what to do with. Should I put him back at defense? Keep him at right wing? He's so physically gifted, but there just seems to be something missing - an awareness, or defensive positioning, or something (I actually think he has both awareness & decent positioning, so I don't really know what it is) - that kept me from picking him.

I think Burns did fly under the radar, he fell down to where ever we're at, 120? Multi-position player. He just goes out and plays, man...he's so funny to watch...he's always been just a hilarious player to see...

He doesn't think the game very well, but his athletic ability is off the charts - especially for someone his size. The way he can go from D to F to D so flawlessly is scary.

I'm running out of defensemen that I know a good bit about. I may just have to play my top each of my top four 25 minutes a night.

I think Wisniewski's a quality offensive defenseman, probably one of the best still left over. Also one of the best power play specialists left over, like you said. However, to be a bit positive on his pretty poor defensive skills, I don't think he's really been asked to concentrate on the defensive side of things. His last four seasons, he's played for the Islanders & for Columbus - not the best defensive teams. For defense, J. Johnson's been the one asked to step up defensively for Columbus (and I know you guys don't care much for him either); Wisniewski seems to been given more freedom, IMO.

To me, he's a lot like Markov, but I also think that under the right coach or with the proper defensive partner, he could play better defensively. I also think he started moving in that direction under Todd Richards. I see a bit more defensive potential than in Markov, at least (though I think Markov's better offensively).

However, I think my opinion's probably the minority there.

Well, there's that (re: PPPG)

I don't think Markov is that bad defensively, personally. I just don't think he can skate anymore. I've never found his defense to be all that suspect, especially in the context Wiz...who I find to be something of a liability defensively and extremely weak on his skates, his stick and the puck...as a PP specialist, there are few better probably remaining...

I don't really like him even with a guy babysitting him, but as a pp specialist with protected minutes he can definitely be useful.

If I had Wiz, I'd think about dressing 7 D.

Markov's a lot like Gonchar a few years ago. He's got the guile and hockey sense to play smart defensively. In a structured system with fast forwards, Therrien's been able to get tons out of him, playing him 25 minutes a night... on a team the went to ECF.

Wiz has a lot of pep to him. He's an offensive weapon, but not much else.

True re: Markov. I placed a little more stock on his Russian performance over his Canadien performance, though, because I think the Olympic squads are a bit more representative of the sorta teams we'll be making (though the Russian team was all sorts of undisciplined, so I guess I shouldn't do that). I do think he has the awareness / sense; however, like Mikey said, I don't think his body's really holding up as well.

I always thought Markov was pretty solid defensively.

I watched the least amount of hockey I've seen in many years last year, but, as Avy referenced, I thought that Wis looked like a much better defensive player than he did in his Anaheim/NYI days. It seemed to me that he was maturing into an adequate second pairing dman and still bringing his PP prowess and physical play (although that part of his game also involves some boneheadedness).

Slow day in the draft. At this rate, doubt some teams will pick today.

Unexpected run on defensive centers forced my hand. My fandom of turtleneck Plek is not without merit, he's one of the league's best defensive centers...

He was right behind Sean on my list.
