Yeah I've had him rated over almost all of the dmen that have been drafted in the last couple rounds. Somewhat less known than he should be for such a good player, kind of like a Cam Fowler East.

Thought about taking Fualk with my Carlson pick, but Carlson is further along in his development by a couple years, more well-rounded defensive game. Faulk though might be the better player in the long run, but not this year IMO.

Yeah, Carlson is a good comp. Really a fan of this generation of American dmen--smart, mobile, skilled, physical enough. Just a great mix and just the type of player I think fits with what TBD is trying to do.

Justin Faulk is an outstanding player and pick. Should have gone 25 spots sooner maybe...

Surprised no one grabbed imposing power forward Lucic earlier. He's a great 3rd guy on anyone's first line.

He's limited in scope and skating, which probably scared people away.

Definitely had Simmonds as a high target for my third line...

Considered Palat with my last two, wasn't going to get past me again...good pick. Young Hossa.

Lucic was a guy that I was eyeing for filling in LW for one of my two lines. I dismissed him, very likely too quickly, because he was not versatile enough for what I was going for. I already have presence in front of the net with Backes and Kesler, and I did not think he would provide much more than smashing everybody and getting unnecessary penalties. Plus, his incident during the handshake line these past playoffs really, really lowered his reputation in my eyes. Thinking back on it, he would've been a perfect fit for a "destroy all targets" line with Backes and someone else. He's very, very good at what he does. Oh well.

Simmonds was another guy I was really looking at. He's got a lot of potential, but I don't really know what his ceiling is yet, especially playing in Philly where everyone seems to be injected with rage or something.

Palat was the guy I was talking about when I said I was really unsure about him. I'm glad he slipped to my next pick, where I feel much more comfortable selecting him. Lots of intangibles, again. A look at his stats, since I think he's a bit of an unknown commodity: 23 goals, 36 assists, +32 (I put all my stock in plus/minus  ); 146 hits, 64 blocked shots. Tampa's #1 penalty killer during the year, and used very often during the playoffs on their power play as well (though a 4-0 sweep doesn't really count as much...). Second in the Calder voting.

Now to only convince all of you that Jack Johnson is a legit #3-4 defender in this small league ;) (joking).

Simmonds plays fast and in your face. He's not got tons of raw talent, but he makes up for it with non-stop, hardhitting, fearless play. He's been on a 30 goal pace for a few seasons now. IMO a perfect complementary winger to any line.... a more aggressive, bigger, and younger Kunitz.

Randall and I have been talking about him for a while as well. He rounds out our second line quite nicely.

I'm interested to see what kind of players get snapped up to fill out the 3rd lines.

I'm more interested in seeing 4th lines. I'm curious as to what route people take for them.

20-23 players. I would recommend 23. There are 25 rounds.

Alexander Semin was one of the three I was referencing. Best shot in the league, in the discussion for best technical skill, actually effective two-way player despite the stereotype...had a below average season on a horrid team...easily a near ppg player or better in any situation where it is not the worst relevant team in hockey...no matter how you slice it, he's a top 100 player in the NHL. I would argue much, much higher...

Yeah, my three or four are now gone. I thought Semin would fall a little further because of the stereotyping/common misconceptions about his game. Definitely a steal of a talent this late.

Edit: Actually only three Nash, Eberle, Semin. The fourth is still there.

On Eberle, I just don't see the Oilers play. I really don't have a good sense of his game. Just from a production standpoint, though, I'm shocked he fell so far.

Looking at his team, I wonder what staggy's draft strategy was. Lol

Wanted Simmonds, I'll settle for Philly's other RW.

And by settle, I mean I'm quite happy to take him.
