I went to HS with a descendant of Swearengen.

I loved that show. The dialogue was so unique. And let's face it, the most brilliant use of the term 'rooster' sucker in TV history.

My favorite swear/slur is squarehead/hooplehead. Ian McShane was great in that role.

We still have the third segment on our DVR. How many years ago was that? Or HBO's John Adams? Still have two of those to go too.

I have 5 episodes left in breaking bad.
Spoiler:
I'm to where Hank is bearing down on Walt, and Jesse just beat the crap out of Saul for having Huel lift the ricin cigarette off him.
Also, I don't get why so many people hate Skylar. I find her to be a totally sympathetic character, all things considered.

The fiancee still hasn't seen any of it. I stopped at the third segment thinking i'd watch it with her. At this point i'm going to have to start over.

I think people carried over hate for Skyler from the beginning of the series, where they set her up to look like the typical nagging, up-tight wife who is a total downer for her rad, devil-may-care husband. These people can't get over that first impression, even though it's clear as the series goes on that it doesn't fit that particular trope.

Getting ready to start the last episode of Breaking Bad. Wife got into it the last 5 or so episodes and is now kicking herself for not watching from the start. *sigh*.

I'll post my full thoughts once I finish this last episode and digest it all.

She squished Walt's nuts and smoked while pregnant. That first impression from season 1 wasn't good. After that, she was a sympathetic character. But that early stuff, combined with an implicit need to root against Walt's obstacles, makes her unlike able.

the strain is so much better when you fast forward through the BS family drama crap. the custody battle is such a horrible storyline.

Just finished the last episode of Breaking Bad.

I'm not even sure what to say. I wish there were more, but it pretty much tied up almost all the loose ends. That was one helluva ride over the past month. I don't think there was much if any filler out of 62 episodes. The "Ozymandias" episode should go down as one of the greatest 47 or so minutes in TV history.

I'll expound more later I'm sure, letting it all soak in.

Ray Donovan is back. It got better as last season progressed, and it's started off well so far.

Liev Schreiber mentioned they were wrapping up filming on Twitter and how he was going to really miss the cast and crew. I guess there won't be a season 3...?

Between killing people, introducing new characters despite the premise of the show, having a dead person walking around, what did you really expect?
Also, I was going to call Rachelle Lefevre a MILF but she's only three years older than me. Doh

Man, that was just a fantastic episode. It doesn't get much better than that from any other TV episode I have ever seen. I miss Breaking Bad. I have so many other TV series to finish but I really want to binge watch BB again on Netflix. It was just that damn good.

The way it was explained to me (yes) is that it's a moving metric, she has to be able to be YOUR Mom. Which sucks. I prefer to think of someone that can reasonably have school aged children should qualify. She's ~34, good enough for me and I don't usually go for red heads.

The dialogue was especially terrible.

As for your other gripes, it's a TV series.

1) Actors will leave the show and characters will need to be replaced. If not, you run out of characters.
2) A dead person walking around bothers you? It's a Stephen King series. The supernatural is implied.

I understand what you are saying though. Characters have been introduced that were not there for the first 10 days under the dome. We are to assume we just didn't notice them. It has been only 10 days after all. My biggest LOL moment of the show is that the entire town turned into a drunken casino for a day or two. Nobody seems to remember that or talk about it...

It's not so much that new characters popped up, it's that the new characters that popped up (like the woman) is an incredibly assertive pain with all these big plans and grand ideas and all this research, yet she spoke to no one at all for the first two weeks? GTFO. And then she does show up (when he tries to steal her car) and suddenly everyone is just willing to go with her? The barber doesn't bother me as much, and the uncle is cheesy (lived in the same town for 8 years, no one has seen him? pfffffft), but whatever. The premise is in the name, Under The Dome. You can't just introduce new powerful characters because you wrote yourself into a corner and you're stuck. Sure, you'll meet townsfolk with small contributions but not influential people this late. This was supposed to be a mini-series and the conversion to an annual series really shows through these gaping plot holes.

Your second point is just me being annoyed at how far they've gone from the book. In the book, the only thing supernatural is the dome itself. What they've introduced with that person is a meandering into fantasy land that breaks the rest of the story for me. If they're dealing with her level of magic/supernatural then nothing else matters because no one has anything to lose since death isn't permanent.

Saying that because it's Stephen King anything goes is shortsighted as it blocks out his body of work that is firmly rooted in our realm of reasonable possibility. (The Body/Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption, Cujo, Misery, Delores Claiborne, Apt Pupil, ad nauesem yadda yadda). With UtD as a novel, the story was the people. A grown up version of Lord of the Flies. The TV show is poop.

I didn't say "anything goes" I said to expect the supernatural. I've read almost everything he has written. The supernatural (in some form) shows up in almost all of his works. You mentioned most that don't. I dunno, maybe it's just me, when I see "Stephen King" I think horror/supernatural, not "I bet this is a reasonably possible scenario" (see: Maximum Overdrive).

I think I said this before but King said that this TV series is giving him a chance to explore the dozens of ways he wanted to go with the novel. He started it in the 70s and had so many ideas of where he wanted to go with it before settling on what was published recently. Personally, I think that
Spoiler:
The dome being alien
is stupid and a cop out. What we are seeing in the show are all of his ideas coming out.
