only one harassing tweet by mrandall which wasn't even that harassing. More or less a "hey, you're up!"

I didn't know we were rolling so quick and I ended up getting caught in meetings all day (I know, excuses, excuses :P )

Had to select the best D-man in the game. I stand behind building from the blue line with a stud D-man.

Staggy should troll Team Iceland before taking Malkin.

Man, Doughty went early.

Can't believe I actually have a chance to select my homeboy...

Already an interesting start. I also select Tavares in the #5 hole. Malkin at 4 is super value in the early going.

What do you think about Doughty? I think he went a round too early

I was going to pick Doughty. :/ Definitely a good pickup there. Random note, but I don't think there's a better contract in the league than Doughty's (value-wise). Arguably the best defender in the league at only $7 mil for the next 8 years? We shoulda traded Malkin for him & Kopitar when we had the chance. :pop:

For me, Drew Doughty is the best defenseman in the National Hockey League. I made that very clear during the season on this board. Do I think he's a top-5 player in the NHL? Well, probably not. But that depends on what you value. My top-5 would look like this probably: Crosby, Malkin, [undrafted], Stamkos, Tavares.

I watch LA quite a bit, he was my #1 for the Norris. The fact that Boston's XXXXX got any kind of nod on reputation is unfortunate, but you have to expect it. XXXXX certainly was not a top-5 d-man in the league this year...not top-10 probably either...but what can you do...? I just piss and moan like impotent jerk...

I agree with you mikey. He's far and away #1 and it isn't even close. He was #1 on my list at 9....shocked he went at 3.

I'd say it's closer than the HF standby "AINEC" (and it's not even close), but I'd prefer to continue this discussion when a few other d-men are taken...in the spirit of not being influential (any of us) from the peanut gallery...there's another Campbell Conference player that deserves some serious praise too...

I think it's awesome. It's like when I do an "all time draft" and someone takes Gordie Howe at #2 or Bobby Orr at #1 - it's in the realm of reason, but it adds an interesting dynamic. I think it's a damn fine pick in the spirit of team-building. In the context of him being the #3 player in the NHL, well, that's another story...I'm sure you'll utilize him well and when it comes time to "defending" our teams and all that, I think you'll do just fine with him and you'll have my support and Kovy's from the sounds of it...

Of note, a few participants here took place in the LGP Award Voting thread from April. I have those ballots still, so, I think a couple of other people may like that pick as well...

Yea he's a beast and I think there will still be some good players left to draft once it comes around to my 2nd pick. I figured too that this isn't a fantasy draft where it's the usual first picks of Sid,AO, Stamkos, Malkin, in whatever type of order. The best player was taken (Sid) and Doughty was my 2nd choice in going in for my team.

Had to edit Stamos, didn't want anyone to think I was picking John Stamos for my team lol

Also from a purely fantasy stand point center is a very deep position... I find myself thinking of the Ducks cup team.

Their #1 center was what Macdonald? Getzlaf was a rookie, same with Perry. The real strength of that team was 2 Norris winning d-men, a shutdown 3rd line, and Giguere in his prime.

IMO you don't need a Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Tavares, etc. to win a cup. One Norris caliber and playoff MVP d-man is arguably a bigger piece than a big time center.

The Ducks top-four d-men that year ran the whole ship. Though, they were aided by some nice depth scoring from youngsters Penner-Getzlaf-Perry. Not much became of them unfortunately.........

In my opinion though, there was a good claim for Samuel Pahlsson to be the Conn Smythe winner that year...he was splendid...
