RIP to war hero Louis Zamperini, at the age of 97. Quite a life he led, and is the subject of an upcoming film to be released on Christmas Day (directed by Angelina Jolie)

He practiced what he preached in 1950, when he went to Sugamo Prison in Tokyo -- where Japanese war criminals were being held -- and met with some of his torturers to offer them forgiveness, hugging them in the process.
What an amazing man

Sad to hear of Zamperini's passing. But at 97, he lived a long and fulfilling life. If you get the chance, read Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. It's what the Jolie film is based off of.

So very sad to wake to the news of Louis Zamperini's passing.

A remarkable human being. Seems somewhat small in context, but the airport in Torrance, CA bears his name, and that's how I came to learn his story.

What an amazing man
His chief torturer - a 'man' named Mutsuhiro Watanabe, who was referred to by his captors as 'the Bird' - refused to meet with Zamperini in 1998 when Mr Zamperini was in Japan to carry the Olympic torch.

I don't know if it was shame, hate, both, or something else, but I can understand. If I had done that I'm not sure if I would be able to see him face to face.

Louis Zamperini; the movie Unbroken (and the book) that's coming in December. Guy lived an incredible life. He ran in the 1936 olympics, was introduced to Hitler and lived through a remarkable harsh WWII ordeal.

RIP my father, 11/2/1945–6/28/2014. He was a failure as a husband, a failure as a father, and a failure as a man. Selfishness and spite ruled his life, and it continued after his death. I appreciate that he gave me life, but I was and remain embarrassed by everything else about him. He died alone and unloved, with only one friend. And that was one more friend than he deserved. Thanks a lot, Dad, and goodbye.

i think the takeaway is that there is some sort of correlation between having an absentee father and becoming very eloquent in the art of posting on internet sports message board sub forums.

Elaine Stritch, Tart-Tongued Broadway Actress and Singer, Is Dead at 89

She was a real firecracker. She did a one-woman show about ten years ago that was fantastic.

It's hard for some people to understand when a son or daughter feel no remorse when a parent dies.

That said, I understand Shyster. I empathize with you.
