Oh yeah, I tried the Yard's Saison, twc. I agree, it's plenty solid for something readily available in cases.

[quote="eddysnake"]Cigar City Hopped on the high seas calypso wasn't so good. My first dip into Calyspo hops and I'm not sure what to think. Very faint smell and taste. I got the slightest dried fruit taste, but it was overpowered by an onion bitterness.[/quote
I think that beer is pretty old at this point. I think I had it back in March and wasn't a huge fan of it then. My least favorite one I have had of the Hopped on the High Seas series. I finally got to try Cigar City White Oak the other day, HOLY CRAP. Amazing. I only have three cans left. LOVED that beer.

It was 3 months old so I figured I'd still take a chance, I have hopslam from December 2012 that still tastes remarkable. Still love their Jai alai. Drinking a southern tier Gemini now, man is it goodletsgoalpens wrote:eddysnake wrote:Cigar City Hopped on the high seas calypso wasn't so good. Sierra Nevada Hoptimum is awesome. Huge hops all the way through, this is a perfect ipa. Must get more.

Just saw that Victory/Stone/Dogfish Head are releasing a new batch of Saison du BUFF. Anyone tried the past batches? If so, did you try it from more than one of the brewers? They supposedly use the same ingredients, but I imagine there could be slight differences between them, particularly if they use a different source for their water.

Been on a wheat beer kick of late. I'll probably stick Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat and Hoegarden this weekend. Anyone have any suggestions for alike beers I can try?

Skip this "wheat beer" crap, and embrace the hefeweizen. Weihenstephaner is your new best friend. If that's not available, Troeg's Dream Weaver or Flying Dog's In Heat Wheat are acceptable substitutes that should be widely available.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I had that Boulevard last summer... I don't remember it, which tells me it wasn't impressive.
As far as Wits go, Hoegaarden is the best, IMO.
If you want to go into Hefeweizens, which are superior, IMO... Weihenstephaner Hefe is the best. Franziskaner is also pretty darn good if that isn't available.

I just can't resist talking about Weihenstephaner. I've typed it so many times on my phone that swiftkey suggests it as soon as I get to we.

Has anyone been to the beer market recently? It's a shame their website is worthless for seeing what they currently have. I may be going this evening.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
tried a dogfish head festina peche last night. It was ok, a little too watery. it was very light and I could throw em back all afternoon, but it didn't do much for me.

Bought Namaste, Dogfish Head's summer brew.
Witte beer brewed with orange halves, coriander, lemongrass and peppercorns. Sounds sweet and spicy.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I went to the beer store craving the Troeg's variety pack that has their Java Head, Troegenator, Pale Ale, and Hopback. All they had was the anthology, which is the pale ale, pilsner, and two other spring/summer beers.
Went with my good ol' standby, the Great Lakes variety pack instead.
