Triples? Pfft. Embrace the quad side.PensFanInDC wrote:If I could only have one type of beer for the rest of my life it would be Belgian triples. If I had to pick a brewer it would be St. Bernardus.

Too rich to drink more than 1 or 2 for me. I like them, but they are an after dinner treat to me.shmenguin wrote:Triples? Pfft. Does Penn make Weizen Bock anymore?

Yeah. I think they skipped a year or two, but they have a batch right now. Unfortunately, when I was at the brewery a couple weeks ago it was pouring only foam so I couldn't get any.

Concur wholeheartedly. Great choice on the brewer, but the quad is the best.shmenguin wrote:Triples? Pfft. Embrace the quad side.PensFanInDC wrote:If I could only have one type of beer for the rest of my life it would be Belgian triples. If I had to pick a brewer it would be St. Bernardus.

If I had to pick one type of beer, it would be stouts, probably. I love Belgian quads but there is a lot more variety in the stout world. World wide stout, BCBS, KBS, ten fiddy, founders imperial...all great. All very different.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I too would probably have to say Stouts. DIPAs would be a close 2nd. There is no question that IPAs have taken over around 80% of my total intake lately, so they could be my #1 by end of summer. What is it about the influx of IPAs in the market today? Seems like they are everywhere.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I think IPAs have gone from being a super hoppy, bitter mess of about ten years ago to a more subtle, refined beer today. Many brewers seemed to tone things down one when they realized subtlety would appeal to more people.

I much prefer DIPAs to IPAs. And I am really starting to like DIPAs quite a bit. There are few that I've tried that have been really unbalanced.

interesting. I've heard that in other places around the world, mixing things like lemonade, coke, or sprite into beer isn't a weird thing to do.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
When I was in Columbus, a bartender the next morning suggested I try a "radler" for my extreme hangover so I could get going again. He gave me a Schofferhofer Grapefruit and it was awesome. I was a little hesitant about the beer juice, but it was very refreshing. Completely surprised by this style.columbia wrote:"Beer + Juice = Totally Radical"

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
My "one beer" would probably be a Belgian abbey beer, something along the lines of a dubbel. Chimay Red/Premiere is what I'm thinking of, although I could actually do with a little less alcohol.

As much as I loathe Bud products, I'd try it just for the heck of it

I think brett takes to fruit flavor well. I've always wanted to mix a Founder's Rubaeus and a Green Flash Rayon Vert. I could see just doing a cherry juice with that too. I've done a couple of strawberries in Rayon Vert before, and it was pretty good.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Tired Hands may very well be bottling now. At the time Kraftster asked (1-2 years ago? The time flies on here), it was small batch draft stuff only. From their website, it looks like they have a growler filling policy now. Maybe you can buy the bottles at the brewery itself? I have no idea.
Just looked at their tap list, while they are known for their excellent farmhouse/saison stuff, looks like they have a DIPA, an Imperial Stout, and an IPA on there as well.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Tired hands is essentially growler only. They do release bottles on occasion. Their IPAs and saisons are top tier, however. They brewed an ipa hopped with Nelson with passion fruit purée added (called "such passion) that was one of the best IPAs I had this year.
Bottle picks are from the second anniversary party held last Sunday and the most recent "out of the emptiness" release.
