True enough. He definitely should have had his head up, but Moore was headhunting no doubt.meow wrote:Really. I'm not condoning those types of hits, but be a little bit more aware, Weise.dodint wrote:heh. wtf were you looking at, Weiss?

The hit wasn't legal for sure, but Weiss sails the pass and goes into limp mode to watch it, and got his clock cleaned. Given how cheap the Rangers have been playing this series that's a lot of trust to leave out there.

1987 Dustin Tokarski is playing better and better as this game moves along.

That powerplay looked like what the penguins would do.

It sure did. Guess it's just human nature to play not to lose in a situation like that.pens2005 wrote:That powerplay looked like what the penguins would do.

Besides the awkwardness of the near-cat fight between Edzo and Pierre, share your thoughts...meow wrote:Ahh, the "goalie battle" debate. Never gets old.

I imagine the vast majority of NYR games are whiteouts.

Noise at MSG is generally frowned upon...the only thing that really is consistently a chant there is that the whistles that starts the "Devils suck" outburst, whether the Devils are at all involved or not...profpolisci wrote:Maybe the rangers can have a white out for game 6

Re: Other NHL games 2013-2014 season
Battlers are battlers because they have to be. They lack a tool (athleticism, technique, mechanics, size...something) that keeps them from being a complete goalie. So to make up for it, they work their bags off. Some goalies that get dinged for having a low battle level have a low battle level because they don't need a high one. Carey Price is a good example. Always in position. Always anticipating. Great rebounds. Cool under pressure. Tim Thomas would be at the opposite end of the spectrum. No technique, horrible positioning, terrible anticipation. Just...wrong. Everything. Wrong. Except his battle level. He literally throws himself in front of puck because that's all he knows. I think Edzo and Pierre were talking about Tokarski's battle level. Yea, he battles. He has to. He has the athleticism of my 84 year old grandmother. So he guesses, he fights through screens, he flops here, he flops there. He's my final thought: Who cares? Stop pucks. Make the timely saves. Don't let in the softie. I don't care what you look like in there or how you get it done, just keep the flipping puck out of the net.mikey287 wrote:Besides the awkwardness of the near-cat fight between Edzo and Pierre, share your thoughts...meow wrote:Ahh, the "goalie battle" debate. Re: Other NHL games 2013-2014 season
Thanks for that. I think I have a little more superficial view of "battler" because I look a lot at the goalie when a play goes against the grain, goes the other way...does he swim back into the play, or does he just give up and try to leave a beautiful corpse...Steve Mason, Jean-Sebastien Giguere, not sure I'd call them battlers...you watch the big push and then the pass back against the grain and they just sit on their heels a lot...they have a lot of quit in them...
In terms of battling in the field of play, I look at guys like Tim Thomas and just think they're bad, because they are. I don't really look at a guy like that think "battler" - because that's so far from my mind when I'm looking at all the other errors he's constantly making. I guess you're right though, I guess these are the actual battlers. The guys that have to fight to make every save because it doesn't come easy to them...

Kinda of a cheap call on Doughty. Toews/Taves went down pretty easily. Of course it leads to a goal.
