meecrofilm wrote:Yes, thanks to mikey. Too bad more didn't do it, but I think some of that might've been people opting out due to not watching a ton of non-Pens hockey this year, which I guess would be better than just throwing votes out based on reputation, stats, etc (now if only the PHWA operated the same way).
Yeah, I wasn't expecting a huge turnout. But I thought it was a little more concentrated "good" so to speak...I agree with the last sentence big time though...

Like I said, I was really pretty impressed with how it turned out, I'm pretty happy with the results. I thought it was a good representation of the league this year for the most part...great job by you guys...thanks for participating!

I didn't vote, because I don't get to see nearly enough west coast hockey, but my winners would be:

Hart: Crosby
Norris: Suter
Vezina: undecided
Calder: MacKinnon, Trouba, Maatta
Selke: O'Reilly
Byng: Selanne, just because
Adams: Roy/Bylsma
GM: undecided

My Ballot. I didn't follow directions and did 5 for everything, and even accidentally did 6 defenseman. I had been drinking at submission so that may have played a role.

Also I'm assuming Elias Lindholm was a typo and should have been Hampus... I had Hampus above Maatta, I liked what i saw from him more.

-Found it interesting that 3 different Hawks got Hart votes and none of them was the teams leading scorer.
-Glad to see Chara didn't get much love. His play was down this year along with his points and the points he did get were inflated from playing forward on the power play.
-Karlsson was higher than I'd of expected given his plus/minus and his team not making the playoffs. Although I don't even consider him a defenseman.
-I'd of thought Mcdonagh would have finished above Subban, Karlsson, and Chara.
-Pleasantly surprised no votes for Berube. He took over a team after an 0-3 start and made the playoffs. I don't find that too impressive.
-I'm not a Toews fan at all. I know everyone else loves him, but I'd of had Crosby ahead of him in the Selke vote. I didn't vote for either though. Crosby was on the ice for 6 more 5 on 5 goals against than Toews in 4 more games played and he doesn't have Hossa playing on his line or Keith and Seabrook behind him and his team was far more beat up. Especially the defense. Crosby played 150 more minutes of even strength time too. Both took on the oppositions best players. Toews reminds me a bit of Mike Richards when he was in Philly when it comes to how people perceive how talented he is.
-I agree with Mikey the GM of the year award is hard to vote on. It's more of a how have they done the last few years award.
-All in all the voting looks pretty darn good.

I'm confused as to why Babcock is above Bylsma in the polling. I guess winning a division with more injuries to better players is somehow less impressive than dealing with a lot of injuries and creeping in to the playoffs as an 8 seed thanks to getting a lot of loser points.

Berube is more deserving than Babcock, imo.

What? The injury part of the argument you used for why bylsma should be above babcock is word for word the reason i would use that babcock would be ahead of bylsma.

No one competes with the wings as far as man games lost to impact players go.

I think you could go either way with Bylsma and Babcock in the Jack Adams ranking. The RW finished well behind Pittsburgh in the standings, but had injuries to their two best players. I think it was closer as far as star impact than most might, but the arguement could be made either way. Datsyuk and Zetterburg played in 45 games. Letang and Martin played in 37 and 39. They aren't the Pens best players, but they are their two best D-men (in Letangs case should be). Add in Malkin playing in 60 games and Neal at 59. The RW had lots of other injuries too. It was close as far as overall impact goes. Sounds like Babcock will finish ahead of Bylsma in overall voting though.

I don't understand how anyone could think Berube desereved a vote either of those two. I'm pretty sure Babcock and Bylsma would have gladly started the season 0-3 if they could have been guaranteed the health the Flyers enjoyed this season.

Yeah, definitely.

You look at it and you lose your #1 center (Datsyuk) for half the year, #1 LW (or strong #2 center, Zetterberg) for half the year, #2 center (Weiss for almost all year - not that it was going great anyhow, but still), terrific third liner/PK and fastest player (Helm) for half the year, best defensive player on the backline (Ericsson) for half the year, and their starting goalie (Howard) missed about a month or so over the course of the season I believe...

I did not vote for Babcock myself. But I can see a fair case for it...

Ditto.

One minus for me re: Babcock, was it seemed like a joint-decision between him and Holland to start Nyquist in the AHL at the expense of Dan Cleary.

Their Dan Cleary is our Craig Adams. Except their Craig Adams plays with Datsyuk. When their Craig Adams breaks his consecutive games streak, they stick Justin Abdelkader with him. Abdelkader is roughly our Tanner Glass with a little better puck skills, but definitely not even Matt Cooke good. The joke is that Justin Abdelkader should win the Selke every year, as he's the only player that can shut down Pavel Datsyuk for an entire season...

So yes, that's the Detroit way though. They don't put boys into the NHL. They put in men. Guys are ripe or overripe when they come in and allows them to jump right into impactfulness within a year - or sooner in the case of Nyquist.

Absolutely. Just seems that while injuries forced their hand with Nyquist, they would've been better served had he been up the whole time. Guess you can't argue with how he played, but maybe a few more goals earlier in the year translates to a couple more wins and they don't end up in the 8-spot. This is just entering pure speculation zone now though, so I'll just stop here before the discussion points carry less weight than they already do :P.
