This is one great parallel to the real vote. I yearn for transparency.

Who is the hero that votes Craig Adams for the Selke? Proud of you guys for getting Kopitar the top spot.

You have to admit, he is a pretty good defensive forward.

Yeah, I was pretty happy with the results. I fret that I may have influenced the Doughty win (that, or I underestimate the number of people that watch the Western Conference regularly here) because I talked him up a lot late in the season (and all season really)...hopefully that was not the case and it was all on merit...

The Hart was pretty good with the top 3. Varly finished about where you'd expect too. As one goalie usually ends up right around there it seems...the writers like Chara more than we do...he'll probably be top-3, but we're right that he doesn't really deserve it (in my opinion)...would have liked McDonagh to finish higher than Subban and Karlsson in an ideal world - that said, he did not receive a vote from me either...just missed.

Vezina ballots were almost all the same three. Just six ballots did not have all three. Including mine, which gave a token vote for Jon Bernier in place of Ben Bishop, who faltered down the stretch.

Calder was a walk, as expected. This will be a near consensus around the league as well...surprised there wasn't a bigger push for Maatta (1 of the 2 second place votes is mine). Astute job on Trouba, DeKeyser and Bjugstad...they were really impressive this year. If you're going against grain (mainly with the latter two), you couldn't do much better...would have liked Lindholm to create a little space on Krug, and probably would have with more ballots, in my opinion...

Selke was a close call. One sub-playoff level coach and one sub-playoff level GM received votes. GM is a tough vote for me, as it's tough to really call a GMs job within the context of a single season.

Marc-Andre Fleury, who received no Vezina votes, finished t-4 in goalie all-star voting. Lundqvist didn't get enough credit, but with no 4th or 5th place votes, it's difficult to dish it out...

Interestingly, Ryan Suter (3rd overall, 2nd team all-star) appeared on the most ballots among d-men...

The forward voting was all walks for the gold star getters...six ballots Giroux, seven ballots Ovechkin...see, we aren't that biased over here...Crosby, Getzlaf, Kessel appeared on all ballots...I'll admit that I was the one that left Perry off of his RW ballot for Kessel/Kane/Ovechkin...the last spot was a coin flip...influenced by regular teammates a little bit, maybe too much...I had Getzlaf as a 2nd place for vote for Hart, which kind of effects my thinking of Perry for better or for worse...

Doughty was dominant in the Olympics, which Im sure had an effect; regardless of whether it's supposed to here or for the real voters.

There are no fourth place votes for any goaltending-specific positions.

Wow, really really surprised Doughty finished that high. I thought I was one of the few that voted for him as he generated little discussion either way. Glad to see I could represent singularly represent Pavelski and McDonagh though!

Not me. And it didn't look like it had any effect on the PHWA either (what does though? certainly not actual play on ice. Location plays a massive factor).

Like I told mikey though, there were a lot of strong defensive performances this season -- we could've extended that vote to Top10 and there would be a lot of deserving individuals getting votes. As is, it looks like between the media, it's coming down to Keith v Chara. I wouldn't put either at #1, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd definitely do Keith.

Don't forget, people like Shelly Anderson vote on these awards. And she's admitted in her online chats to hardly watching the rest of the league. But, after the Ovechkin position debacle, it's not like people need any convincing that the majority of the PHWA barely know anything.

I also had a tough time voting for GM of the year. Just one of those close my eyes and point at playoff teams.

Yes, thanks to mikey. Too bad more didn't do it, but I think some of that might've been people opting out due to not watching a ton of non-Pens hockey this year, which I guess would be better than just throwing votes out based on reputation, stats, etc (now if only the PHWA operated the same way).
