I bet Ovechkin will get the MVP anyway with the retards that vote for it.....
Will Oates be canned?
SALUTE! Crapitals season ending is always worth celebrating!
I get what you're saying about the MVP and those that vote for it but I don't think that the NHL can allow A) a player on a non-playoff team to win the MVP and B) a player with that big a minus. those 2 things combined pretty much prove that he wasn't valuable at all, he was a liability. right now my choice would probably be Rask from the Bruins.

Rask won't win MVP, because of the argument there is an award specifically for goalies.
I frankly think that's a stupid mindset. A goalie, even a Vezina candidate, should also be considered for MVP.

Sid has been great this year and would be deserving of the Hart but Rask is the reason that the Bruins will win the Presidents Trophy. I'd rather Sid won the Conn Smyth.
Rask isn't on the radar for Hart. And may not even win the Vezina. He's probably my #2 behind Varly. And I'm positive I'm Tuukka's biggest fan and supporter here...

17 Wins, 3 losses, and 2 OT losses.
2.12 GAA, .923 save percentage and 2 shutouts....
Those are Chad Johnson's stats. The Bruins backup goalie and you think their starter should win the Hart trophy? Rask is a damn good goalie. He makes big saves when their is a breakdown in the Bruins system, but when your backup wins 81% of his starts it's kind of hard to say he's the most valuable player to his team in the league.
Based on McKenzie's poll of 16 head coaches Rask is the front runner for the Vezina. I agree he should be in contention for that and maybe even win it, but he shouldn't be in the discussion for the Hart.
I think the Caps are an interesting case. They had several years of dominant regular seasons followed playoff flame-outs, so clearly they had to make changes. I think many of the changes they made were reasonable too...trying a more defensive approach (the Hunter era), getting rid of an inconsistent/one-dimensional star player (Semin), bringing in grittier guys with track records of playoff performance (Ward and Brouwer). And obviously, none of it worked.
I'm really not sure what I would do to fix their problems.

I remember back in 2009 before the Pens vs Caps Rd 2 series, Jeremy Roenick was interviewing AO, and he told AO if he had a choice between AO and Sid to build a team around, he'd pick AO.

He's angling for a job in the Flyers' front office.

I'm talking candidates for the Hart. Rask deserves to be one, the fact that he's a goalie shouldn't prevent that.
I think with this mindset the Hart and Vezina trophy would go to the same person most years. If you have the best goalie in the league on your team, he's going to be the MVP of the league quite often since goalie is the highest impact position. Basically what they have now is Vezina = MVP goalie, Norris = MVP defenseman, and Hart = MVP forward. The Art Ross is NOT the MVP forward for the same reason the Norris doesn't go to the highest scoring defenseman.
This isn't exactly correct, but overall it's not a bad setup in my opinion.
Caps sucked this year, and I can't say that I was too upset about that. Everyone saw the perfect example of what a skilled goal scorer can do when he doesn't play defense. AND how it affects the team causing them to miss the playoffs.
