Hypothetically....if OV were on the trade market, who would go after him?

...the Penguins? They're too top heavy as it is. Also they already have a one trick pony whose only trick is a great shot.meow wrote:You'd be stupid not to at least dip your toes.columbia wrote:Hypothetically....if OV were on the trade market, who would go after him?

At his price, there is absolutely no reason to even glance that way, unless you're trying to ship out Crosby or Malkin.

Does GMGM survive this offseason? I've been saying that for...years. He has to get fired soon, right?

The highest goal scorer in the league becomes available and you don't even inquire about the asking price. That's absurd.Idoit40fans wrote:At his price, there is absolutely no reason to even glance that way, unless you're trying to ship out Crosby or Malkin.

With the right linemates, you may be able to mitigate his awful defensive play, especially if you have players who can keep it in the offensive zone (and you get Ovechkin to by into putting forth some effort).

The only way he would fit under the cap, and the only way the caps would legitimately be interested is if Malkin or Crosby were involved, which would be absurd for us to entertain.meow wrote:The highest goal scorer in the league becomes available and you don't even inquire about the asking price. What if you traded Malkin to Vancouver for Kesler and prospects and then traded for Ovie?

He's not even talking about making the trade. Just asking about what it would theoretically take. Any GM would at the very least kick the tires.Froggy wrote:The only way he would fit under the cap, and the only way the caps would legitimately be interested is if Malkin or Crosby were involved, which would be absurd for us to entertain.meow wrote:The highest goal scorer in the league becomes available and you don't even inquire about the asking price. The thought of the gm of the penguins in a salary cap league(the nhl is a salary cap league, just so you know)inquiring on a player with that contract, is absurd. Outside of it coming up in a normal checkin with their gm, if they even do those, he wouldnt be calling on it.meow wrote:The highest goal scorer in the league becomes available and you don't even inquire about the asking price. Re: Good news/Bad news for OVI (mostly bad)
So if we were to reverse roles and Crosby became available, you'd think McPhee would be stupid for calling Shero and seeing what he wanted for him? These are all hypotheticals, obviously, but both scenarios parallel each other.Idoit40fans wrote:The thought of the gm of the penguins in a salary cap league(the nhl is a salary cap league, just so you know)inquiring on a player with that contract, is absurd. Re: Good news/Bad news for OVI (mostly bad)
The only way we can afford Ovechkin and the only way the Caps would trade him to us is if we gave up one of Sid or Geno. It simply makes no sense for us to do that, so I don't see us inquiring at all.

Since this is all purely hypothetical... Caps could eat part of AO's salary, making it extremely easy to fit him under the cap.

Re: Good news/Bad news for OVI (mostly bad)
If Malkin is being moved it better bring back more than Kesler and picks AND Malkin would be the starting point in a trade for Ovi. You move Malkin then you have no chips to use when trying to trade for Ovi. I realize this is hypothetical.ron_duguays_hair wrote:What if you traded Malkin to Vancouver for Kesler and prospects and then traded for Ovie?

Ovechkin: I think everybody quit on the play
Ovechkin: I think everybody quit on the play
that's nice, except everybody didn't quit on the play.“He’s the head coach and I get the blame from it, but in that moment I think everybody quit on the play,” Ovechkin said following the Capitals’ morning skate at Prudential Center on Friday in his first public comments since Oates criticized his lackluster defensive play against the Stars.
“To be honest with you I didn’t see him, I kind of lost the position. It is what it is,” Ovechkin said.

Re: Good news/Bad news for OVI (mostly bad)
this should lead to a lot of speculation about the relationship between Oates and Ovechkin and the team.
AO calls out AO who calls out the whole team in the process of making an excuse. Sounds healthy.

Re: Good news/Bad news for OVI (mostly bad)
Steve Ott's -6 in his last two games is enough to capture last place in the +/- department, beating out Ovechkin by -2 at the moment.
