Good news/Bad news for OVI (mostly bad)
A raally dubious distinction is staring OVI in the face this year. He could lead the league in goals and, AND, he could have the worst +/- in the league. Never been done before. Well, at least he is not one dementional.

He also recorded exactly 0 points at even strength in the month of March. That's impressive!

I would probably consider it mostly good... if you asked every player in the league if they would trade being the worst minus in the league if they could lead the league in goals, they'd do it

The stats say that a guy leading the league in those to categories is great at shooting, doesn't try on defense, and sucks when they accidentally get caught on defense. The eye test...supports those things.

I'm not so sure about that. He should be embarrassed of himself.Mr. Colby wrote:I would probably consider it mostly good... if you asked every player in the league if they would trade being the worst minus in the league if they could lead the league in goals, they'd do it

I have not heard any MVP chants at Verizon yet this year. Maybe the Caps fans are starting to lean something about hockey...

I think their team in danger of missing the playoffs has something to do with itJim wrote:I have not heard any MVP chants at Verizon yet this year. Maybe the Caps fans are starting to lean something about hockey...

Re: Good news/Bad news for OVI (mostly bad)
maybe one of you advanced stats people can find the link to this, but right before the olympic break AO was the second-worst goals against player when playing 5v5 (Okposo was first). A month has passed and with AO not scoring a single even strength point, I would bet he's now leading the league.

Re: Good news/Bad news for OVI (mostly bad)
Him leading the league in goals this year means absolutely nothing to me. The fact that he can't score a goal any other way than his usual spot makes this look even worse. After that complete farce of a Hart he won last year for showing up for 6 weeks is going to make me even more furious if Sid someone gets jobbed again this year.

Re: Good news/Bad news for OVI (mostly bad)
I understand when "jobbed" should be used, but what does it mean and where did it come from. It seems to be a pretty dumb term.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jobbed" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;jobbed
To be the victim of a conspiracy; to lose a seemingly fair contest because of deceit; to be guaranteed to lose. The term derives from the professional wrestling term "jobber".
Brett Hart was jobbed in the infamous Montreal Screwjob.
The Seahawks got jobbed in Super Bowl XL.
And the term can even go back further in wrestling, with the jobber "doing the job" of losing, hence jobbed or jobbing.

Re: Good news/Bad news for OVI (mostly bad)
I'm not privy to this type of info because I never liked wrestling. But I thought "jobbed" was a wrestling term for the person that lost on purpose in a staged fight or some such...and then it stemmed out to jabroni...perhaps I made that all up...
Edit: ****! I had started typing that during a commercial break, didn't finish and picked it back up during the intermission and was beaten, handily, to the punch...

Oh...while my original thought was right about the source, it actually makes sense in a way.

that's another -2 for Ovie, putting him at -36 for the season. Ouch.

fast forward to 3:00 where they talk about "fundamentally sound defensively" and "200 ft player" on his draft day. I'm not saying he was or wasn't since I didn't follow his career in Dinamo, but man times have changed.

I think the most incredible part of this saga is Ovechkin not scoring ONE point in the entire month of March in 5-on-5 play. That is remarkable.

Just saw the highlight, or maybe lowlight of AO being out hustled by 41 year old Ray Whitney for one of his minuses. Even if you are a Cap fan, not sure how you can stick up for him at all.

It wasn't, to the best of my recollection. Sometimes, especially for Euros, it becomes a game of "telephone" almost...one guy suggests one thing and it just gets repeated and repeated and it snowballs and snowballs...next thing you know, he's a 30 goal, 40 assist, 100 point guy with Selke level defense and he's like Doug Gilmour mixed with Mario Lemieux with higher upside...JS© wrote:fast forward to 3:00 where they talk about "fundamentally sound defensively" and "200 ft player" on his draft day. Though, it even happens with junior players too...I remember Cody Hodgson and Steven Stamkos being praised for their two-way play coming out of Brampton and Sarnia, respectively...
