Ha yes. Perfect description.

Also had some Dream Weaver and Simon Girty last night. While I like dream weaver, like most American wheat beers, it leaves me wanting for the superior German hefes.

I am convinced that Draai Laag uses some kind of Satanic ritual to brew Simon Girty. How can a beer with such a high alcohol content be so smooth?

Second glass in of a growler of Tap's Cali Gold when a nice 5.1 earthquake hits. We were at the epicenter, which is like being next to an explosion when it hits. A long night of clean up and aftershocks later, the second glass sits on the patio all nice and warm now.

Cali Gold IPA is great stuff. Moves the ground below you, and after just one glass, you are having a difficult time standing.

Out of pure respect, Bourbon county should never be consumed within 24 hours of any other beer. It should have a dedicated ceremony with scented candles and a bubble bath.

Yeah, haha, I was going to say something similar. If I were planning to crush multiple 10%+ hard-to-find bourbon aged beers, I'd rather take shots of bourbon and drink Guinness, then enjoy those things individually over time.

Just opened Deschutes the abyss last night, also had some epic 825 state stout, stone enjoy by and stone Matts burning rosids. All were phenomenal beers. My pal in Columbus has pretty easy access to the bourbon county so it's not that big of a deal. The Deschutes was a tougher grab.

got to enjoy a full morning/day/night of drinking in Columbus on Friday, so I thought I'd make the best out of it. Really nice city with a wonderful selection and great access to a lot of great beers.

Mojo Risin' (nitro)
Sculpin IPA
Goose Island Sofie
Victory Dirtwolf
Fat Heads Oompa Loompa Stout
Fat Heads Hop Juju
Columbus IPA
Columbus Bodhi (double ipa-cask)
GL Chillwave
Stone Enjoy By
Barleys Brewing Co. Ol Rons Surly Oatmeal Stout
Gabriels Chupacabre (barles brew co.-cask). Imperial Brown ale, probably one of the best beers I had all weekend

Really liked the Sofie and the burning rosids from Saturday. I'm enjoying more and more different Saisons. Any recommendations?

The Labatt light at the hockey game is what probably gave me the terrible hangover on Saturday. Has a Schofferhofer Grapefruit in the morning to help, very refreshing, never had a radler before, I thought the bartender was offering me drugs at first.

grabbed an Epic Big Bad Baptist for home along with some Jackie Os mystic mama ipas, hop ryots, and Chomolungma Honey Nut Brown Ales.

Sophie's definitely solid. As far as other saison recommendations go, I have lots. What other than Sophie have you enjoyed?

Using accessibility and Sophie (fruitier than classic style (Saison Dupont as reference for classic)) as a starting point, I'd say:

North Coast Le Merle (available in 750ML at Giant Eagle) -- probably pretty close to Sophie
Brooklyn Sorachi Ace (750ML GE) -- More lemony
Stillwater Stateside Saison (750ML not readily available, I think Ho1kB has 12 oz. bottles for probably $6 or so)
Helltown Sinful Saison (750ML) -- great Burning Rosids comp, I've only seen it at Hal's in the North Hills, and I think I bought them all.
Saint Somewhere Saison Athene (750ML not readily available, perhaps Vintage Estates in Boardman?)

More traditional saisons or herbal/grassy ones that you can get your hands on:

Saison Dupont (750ML most good bottle shops, 12 oz. at Sharp Edge for probably $12) - classic
Ommegang Hennepin (750ML and 12 oz occasionally) - bready saison
Great Divide Collete (12 oz bottles, GE)
21st Amendment Sneak Attack Saison (12 oz cans, GE/Whole Foods, Save on Beer) - lemon/sage
Ithaca Ground Break Saison (12 oz bottles, GE) - probably hoppiest of 12 oz stuff
Victory Swing Session Saison (12 oz bottles, GE, Save on Beer)
Yard's Saison (12 oz bottles, haven't seen it in a while)
(of the 12 oz saisons I'd rank them in that order based upon person preference.

I would avoid the Southampton saisons. I've not had the Ovila saison because I don't really care for Sierra Nevada, but its fairly readily available. Another accessible/local one is Sly Fox Saison VOS. Its not bad. Lots of other stuff that you can't get around here so I figure not really worth mentioning.

I've not mentioned the bretty/sour saisons, probably my favorite style of beer. That probably deserves a separate post but not much available around here in this category anyway. Giant Eagle (Shaler) recently got Saison de Pipaix, which might be a good stab. Also, Liopard Oir is a brew from Lavery (Erie brewery) which won the GABF gold for saison (or some sub-saison category). Its a very good brett saison.

I've only had the sofie, stone Matts burning rosids and great divide Collette. Enjoyed them all. My wife enjoyed the sofie the most. Thanks for that list, that's a huge help

Yeah, we spoke about this the other night, but Simon Girty is so good that it actually makes me angry

Also should mention that I had some more Dream Weaver on Saturday, and I enjoyed it more when it was not immediately following Simon Girty. Probably wasn't fair to drink anything after that.

Sampled New Belgium's Snapshot last night. Described as an unfiltered American wheat with sour yeast. It was, sour. If you enjoy sour beer, give it a try. 1 pint was just enough.

Here are my top 5 in no order:

Dogfish DFH Ale (good luck finding this)
Knee Deep brewing company Hoptologist
Oskar Blues G'Knight
Ballast Point Tongue Buckler -- my #1 if I had to rank them
21st Amendment Hop Crisis

honorable mentions: dogfish 90min IPA, Russian River Pliney the Elder, 21st Ammend Back in Black, Ballast point dorado IPA, Sierra Nevada Blindfold black IPA, Bells Hopslam

EDIT
Forgot to add stone Ruination to my top 5 -- now top 6 list.

Make your own 6er at GE:

Troegs Troegenator
Heavy Seas Peg Leg IS
Breckenridge Agave Wheat
Left Hand Milk Stout
Deschutes Black Butt(e)
Thirsty Dog Leghumper.

Trying the Troegenator first. Kind of an odd flavor (or combos of flavors). This might be my first Doublebock, but it tastes like someone took a dark lager and tried to mix it with a fruity IPA.

Troegenator is outstanding. Has a wonderful bready, malty flavor. Don't really get the fruity IPA flavor at all though, maybe I will have to try it again.

Perhaps it's just my taste buds, but I tasted something fruity.

I feel the exact same way about Troegenator and didn't care for it because of the fruity IPA pop at the end.

Randall, how was the Black Butte? Supposed to be a real nice porter.

Had a fatheads hop juju last night. Man this thing punches you in the mouth, I don't think it's as good as the headhunter, but it's solid.
